House Vote on DREAM Act to Come Next Week

By Micheal E. Hill

--Updated on Thursday, December 2, 2010 at 6:10 pm EST--

Sources in the offices of the House Democatic Leadership indicate that the U.S. House of Representatives will vote on the DREAM Act next week, probably on Wednesday, December 8.

There is no word at the time of this writing what the precise contours of the bill will be or what vehicle the House will use to bring the measure to the House floor.

Check back later for more information as developments become more clear.

They don't think they will have enough time for the DREAM Act this week as there are many bills for them to consider and they have to follow a specific order.

As long as there are enough votes for the DREAM Act in the House and as long as it is passed before the House adjourns, I think the timing of the vote on the DREAM in the House is not that important. The House can pass a bill very quickly if the Democratic leadership has enough votes and intends to pass it.

The Senate is the problem. The Democrats need to reach an agreement with the Republicans on the tax cuts and government spending. It is not clear that they can do it even by next week. If they can't reach an agreement, the Senate will run out of time for the DREAM Act.

case in point, the house has been passing bill incredibly fast compared to the senate. I think there was a report on t.v. placing an estimate of about 400 bills waiting to be heard by the senate, not to mention that positions that used to be brought up during the bush administration and appointed as fast as the following day in the senate have been taking two years and at the current pace are expected to take as long as 8 years for people to get some key appointments, leaving a lot of very important vacant seats.

Today the democrats where outrage over the republicans holding back appointments of the number two position in the national policing force. not to mention judges. Rethugs are really making a serious mess of things in hopes the public will be stupid to not realize what they are doing, and chances are they will not know what is going on and blame it on the majority.
