Although not DA related, he's not going to go along with the Republican's 42 signed pledge to filibuster everything until the tax cut by supporting the repeal of DADT.

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/plu..._in_favor.html

Quote:
"I have been in the military for 31 years and counting, and have served as a subordinate and as an officer. As a legislator, I have spent a significant amount of time on military issues. During my time of service, I have visited our injured troops at Walter Reed and have attended funerals of our fallen heroes. When a soldier answers the call to serve, and risks life or limb, it has never mattered to me whether they are gay or straight. My only concern has been whether their service and sacrifice is with pride and honor.

"I pledged to keep an open mind about the present policy on Don't Ask Don't Tell. Having reviewed the Pentagon report, having spoken to active and retired military service members, and having discussed the matter privately with Defense Secretary Gates and others, I accept the findings of the report and support repeal based on the Secretary's recommendations that repeal will be implemented only when the battle effectiveness of the forces is assured and proper preparations have been completed."
BUT,

Don't forget this bastard is running for re-election in a blue state, (MA) in 2 years. So he's trying to get better of both worlds - support repealing DADT knowing it won't pass..

You spoke too soon. He's up for re-election in mostly democratic state of Massachussetts in 2 yrs. He doesn't give a fuck about the gays in the military. He knows DADT repeal won't pass and his former stance will make him a target in a blue state.

The only good news out of this is that Mitch McConnell (aka Earthworm Jim) and his threat to filibuster in unison now sounds like a loud noise with no bang.

I still don't think it would be easy to persuade him to vote for the DREAM Act, but he represents Massachusetts, a fairly liberal state, so I'm hoping that he would embrace a more liberal position in immigration as well. After all, the person who once held his senate seat, the late great Senator Kennedy, one of the biggest champions of our cause, was quite popular in MA. Being pro-immigrant didn't hurt him at all.
