this guys got balls, he uses his acceptance speech to bring attention to the subject, joking about whats wrong in america, a nation built by immigrants, and mentions having your papers ready, by the response he gets on one of his jokes you can tell that most present would rather look the other way and not address a difficult subject even if it was wrong

Gotta hand it to Bobby, he has guts.

As to some of the audience's reaction, it's hard to reconcile "illegal is illegal" with the fact that our whole immigration system is screwed up to the point where it's administratively easier for someone to risk their life and savings coming here illegally for work most Americans just won't do than it is to do it the correct way, which most undocumented immigrants are prevented from doing in the first place. I can understand the former view, but the latter is a stubbornly omnipresent truth that most people, Hollywood included, just ignore.

The ironic thing is that a majority of those entertainment industry luminaries in the audience probably use or have used undocumented labor to get their dirty work done in the past.

I think he was just trying to be funny imo without any true message behind it. I'm a filmmaker and I would love to make a film about our stories, I think a film that not only us but a general audience can relate to and understand would send a bigger message than a news report.

He was not trying to be offensive. He was just trying to be funny. The actual joke itself was directed at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hollywo...ss_Association ).

This is just Spanish Media making a big fuss and blowing it out of proportion.

he was obviously mocking in a comical way the anti-immigrant climate of the past few years.

Obviously some people will miss the point. I wonder if the sultry lady seating next to him was his muse.
