Considering that New York has introduced a DREAM Act that would grant undocumented students work permits, we should pressure for a similar bill in California.

How do we get started? We've done demonstrations on Broadway Blvd, yet it hasn't been enough.

I feel you. Trying to get the message across is difficult through letters and, as I now know, demonstrations. Does anyone have a direct or know anyone who has direct contact with Gil Cedillo? The best way, I think, would be to get a direct hold of him and let him know that a work permit would be better than financial aid.

If Utah did something in terms of work permits, I know Ca can do the same for at least DREAMers. I just don't know why anyone is trying. Maybe, pro-immigration state legislators in Ca are scared of fighting for work permits . . .

By any chance, are you part of DREAM Team Los Angeles? This organization seems to have direct contact with Gil Cedillo. I have been trying to get hold of members from this organization with no success.

Cool. Thank you for seeing this thread as important. I am glad I posted it. I hope Gil Cedillo is able to get the message that we prefer work permits.

Personally, I would prefer a work permit because I could MORE EASILY put food on the table, pay for housing, and pay for school. I am a senior in college, and paying for my education has not been a problem, so financial aid does not make much of a difference. There are ways to save money and pay without getting loans, which lead to debt, or getting financial aid. And conservatives say I am a burden on taxpayers? ha!

I also am for work-permit. Likewise, I've paid my way into 4-year university. I am graduating this June and I will be faced with obvious situation where I can't get any jobs despite of my degree and qualifications. I know that bill for financial aids are beneficial in some sense where it can relieve financial stress but what good will it do in the long-run when you can't get into work force? The process of working and paying for your college will not only make you a responsible person, but also independent.

Kudos on your hardwork. Congratulations. Hang in there. Who knows, maybe you will be legal by the end of this year . . .

If not, you have reached a significant threshold that many lazy, documented people stay away from. You deserve the outmust respect.

Work permit? Uh. Why? I want to get Financial Aid, Im sorry but I thought we were supporting this DREAM Act so we could go to school? I believe we need school more than a job. School leads us to better jobs.

Without a permit having a degree leads to no job.
