I know most of you probally didn't. Most probally assume that all of the republicans would act like attack dog towards immigrants...But actually Newt Gingrich proposed an idea, "local citizen boards who decide who will stay and who will go".

What do you think of that idea? Then you can be judged on your family connections, honesty, potential for economic contribution, etc. It sounds better than now, and sounds like a compromise.

There is his explanation

Fuck Republicans, that's my reaction to the debate. If the GOP takes the presidency I will definitely leave the country. Besides, I'll be hopefully done with my Masters in 2012.

I moved this thread to the Lounge. It seems like the more appropriate place as opposed to the News Room section.

Huntsman is also a CIR, DA proponent - though with the current voter base it's difficult for any Republican seeking office to support any compromise on immigration reform. Sigh .....

CB124, this is actually the most intriguing thing you've ever posted. And quite frankly, I don't see much of that from you. But! To those who are trash talking the Republicans, don't. Actually take a look at the nearly two hour debate then you can say stuff. I hate Republicans as much as everyone else in the forum, but they actually had some decent ideas that could be integrated with CIR. Like CB124 mentions, Mr. Newt did propose a decent idea at CIR, which included, of course, closing up the border, as well as the local citizen boards. Why not elaborate on this more? Obviously, we couldn't do it per city, so it would have to be more of a county board. Maybe split up the larger counties into level districts. Funded by the federal government of course, but with the counties/districts/local citizen boards reporting directly to the INS/Dept. of Homeland Security to authorize the permission of selected individuals to stay. Obviously before said local citizen boards were to be inacted, a concrete proposal for guidelines/requisites of wanted individuals would have to be established. As well as an effective method of deporting the rest. Also, would chosen individuals for conditional stay be granted a work permit or...Of course, not citizenship. Maybe combine some of the Dream Act into the CIR? Any thoughts/rambles? P.S. I enjoyed how Romney, I believe, stated that they should allow the immigrants with a higher education in a specialized field to stay, yet Republicans decline the Dream Act...
