Mitt Romney starts to make the contrast with Rick Perry over immigration, an area where the Texas governor's critics see an opening, in his remarks at the National Hispanic Assembly in Florida this morning. Romney urged "completing construction of a high-tech fence," and pointed to another key issue:
"Finally, we must stop providing the incentives that promote illegal immigration. As governor, I vetoed legislation that would have provided in-state tuition rates to illegal immigrants."
Quote:
Rick Perry reiterated his feelings against a total border fence between the U.S. and Mexico in an interview with conservative radio host Mark Levin on Thursday:
"There are places along the border that strategic fencing worked, particularly in the metropolitan areas," Perry said. "The idea that we're going to build a wall from El Paso to Brownsville doesn't make sense 'cause the fact of the matter is you know, number one, you'd never get it built, and it'd cost billions of dollars ... by the time you go from Tijuana to Brownsville." Perry said that he does support putting "boots on the ground" and using "aviation assets" (i.e. aerial drones) to secure the border.
He also defended his signing of a bill to allow in-state tuition to some illegal immigrants, an issue Mitt Romney sought to highlight (without naming Perry) in a speech before a Hispanic group in Florida on Friday, saying, "I don't believe these individuals should be punished for a decision their parents made through no fault of their own."

I guess Rick Perry is the best republican choice for the pro-immigrant community.

Tired of illegal immigrants stealing jobs from Americans? Now you can do something about it! If you are unemployed, or know someone who is unemployed, go to http://takeourjobs.org/and apply to become a farm worker.

lol ..

Rick Perry is NOT a viable Republican presidential candidate for us...Jon Huntsman and Newt Gingrich are far better choices with both being vocal about immigration reform and both are DREAM Act supporters.
