Lawmaker urges undocumented migrants to remain vigilant
Published September 12, 2011

Chicago – Rep. Luis V. Gutierrez (D-Ill.) does not expect immigration reform to become a reality until 2015 at the earliest, and so he urged the 300,000 undocumented immigrants in the process of deportation to be "proactive and vigilant" in being certain that the government reviews their cases.

The Department of Homeland Security announced last month that each of the 300,000 scheduled deportations would be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
"What's been achieved is not perfect and definitive but it can save many good and hard-working people, although we can't rest on our laurels," said Gutierrez during an information meeting held Saturday at Benito Juarez High School in Chicago's mainly Hispanic Pilsen neighborhood.
2015 is now the earliest possible date?

Time to pack up and go home.

I agree. It's an opinion. However, I would argue that it's an educated opinion based on facts and figures. He knows what he is talking about.

Damn it, Gutierrez. I respect the man, but this declaration really angers me. Why doesn't he say that he will work hard to make sure some sort of compromise is reached this year or the next?

Legislators like Gutierrez really need to learn how to work with the situation they have in congress not wait until the idealistic scenario is reached for passing immigration reform.

IN ANY EVENT, Gutierrez is referring to CIR. We don't know what will happen in terms of the DA, E-verify, and the visa program this year. Guys, don't lose faith now.

This is depressing as hell. I cannot wait much longer.

It's kind of hard to remain faithful with nothing being done on immigration. All am waiting for is to finish up my studies here, so I can use my full potential elsewhere. Let's just wait and see what happens, but again, we've been waiting so long now.
