A status update from one of the co-founders of dreamactivist.org, Prerna Lal

Quote:
Dear friends, an awesome donor has decided to triple all donations that DreamACTivist.org gets in the next week so $5 donation from you is really $15. Help us out: http://action.dreamactivist.org/donate
The donor will triple all donations, up to $3000

Quote:
We are ending this year with an amazing fundraising drive. We need all the support we can get because an amazing donor has oferred to triple all donations, up to $3,000.

This means your $25 donation is really a $75 donation. Amazing no?

We only have a limited time to meet this challenge, we are sure you'll get us over the top. With the DREAM Act heating up this election cycle all of your support is needed.

Donations will go towards the work of DreamActivist.org in 2012. Items like:

- DreamAct advocacy
- Sponsoring media, organizing, lobbying and other trainings.
- Website developing and hosting costs
- Student scholarships
- Deportation advocacy campaigns

And so much more, you know the work we do and we plan on really buckling down this coming year with a lot of new things

We only need one thing - Lobbying local congressmen to show political power by CITIZENS. They only know two things - money and votes. All these protests and sit-ins do is turn people who have no opinion on the subject against us.

The protests, political actions, and civil disobedience highlight the issues that are taking place, without it, the average citizen would be oblivious to what is going on, who it actually affects and how it will affect them.

It is about one of the only things we can do to get control of how media will portray us, otherwise, to the average voter we would all be spanish only speaking farm workers with no education stealing jobs and causing small crimes around the city with no intention of following the laws and perhaps a flawed perception about how one really attains legal status believing our cause to be potentially a choice to get more benefits for nothing.

However, it does not mean that it should have priority over reaching citizens, we certainly have to make sure we reach them as they are ultimately the individuals who can vote on the decisions that affect what we end up doing, but we should not focus solely on that one goal, if we did, we would not be efficient.
