The real problem, he said, is that House Republicans continue to block immigration-reform efforts. He said recent efforts by Sen. Rubio to change the Dream Act to win Republican support in Congress appear to have failed. “I have a feeling those Republicans who have talked about doing something have not been able to get Republican support,” said Becerra.

Rubio is certainly realizing now that house republicans will definitely kill any bill he proposes. This will give democrats and Obama a huge opportunity to bash the GOP as extreme and anti latino. So the best bet for him now is to not introduce any bill at all.

Quote:
Perhaps the opponents will outnumber the supporters. If so, the plan will die. The GOP will be dealt a PR disaster that Barack Obama will campaign on to paint Mitt Romney as the leader of a bunch of bigots. The PrObama press corps will seize on every objection, no matter how legitimate, as crazy, racist bigots who hate brown people. Shampoo. Rinse. Repeat.
But let’s say the plan moves forward.
There will be three scenarios.
In the first scenario, the Democrats will push the plan’s supporters further and further left. The Democrats will insist more compromises be made. Many Republicans such as myself who might view the plan, as proposed, to be the ideal ultimate solution, will begin seeing the GOP cut deals to pass it that will undermine the deal and cause more and more objections from the base. The PrObama press corps will seize on every objection, no matter how legitimate, as crazy, racist bigots who hate brown people. Shampoo. Rise. Repeat.

In the second scenario, the Democrats will push the plan’s supporters to cut deals and the supporters will decide they are being pushed out onto a bridge too far. The Democrats and prObama press will point to the GOP and say, “See, see, they want all or nothing. Everyone knows we have to compromise here and they won’t compromise. They are being . . . political.” Then the PrObama press corps will seize on every objection, no matter how legitimate, as crazy, racist bigots who hate brown people. Shampoo. Rinse. Repeat.

In the third scenario, the PrObama press corps will seize on every objection, no matter how legitimate, as crazy, racist bigots who hate brown people. As the GOP soldiers on with the media and Democrats pointing out every objection as racist, the plan will pass. It will pass with a bipartisan majority in the House and Senate, but the Democrats control the Senate and, you mark my words, it would require Democrat votes to get passed in the House.

The President have a huge photo-op. Marco Rubio will be on stage with Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Democrat hispanic leaders, and President Barack Obama signing a bill the press will herald as a true sign of Barack Obama’s willingness to work across party lines for hispanic voters. He will get all the credit. Marco Rubio will get a handshake or maybe even a Presidential hug.
Mitt Romney will not be seen.

The goal of this election season is to elect Mitt Romney. Handing the Democrats multiple opportunities to paint the GOP as bigoted anti-brown people and potentially give the President a bi-partisan photo opportunity is definitionally stupid.
The GOP should not dare trot this out this year.

Regardless Rubio introduces his bill or not, the GOP will appear bigoted to the voters. If he doesn't introduce it, they'll know he was playing games this whole time. If he does and they vote No, same story.

Yup. Rubio, I think, has helped to fuck his party over by just opening his mouth.

In any event, articles like these continue to put pressure on Rubio's ass to present something ASAP. What happened to his desire to pass something before the fall semester????????????????

It went away in a heartbeat. Rubio is not stupid, he was just really doing this to up his profile and add some legislative accomplishments before he starts in 2014 to just act like a political whore wanting his shot in 2016. I think it's time to move on from the Rubio idea, it's just not going to happen, and if it somehow does happen, then the bill likely wouldn't be palatable to many of us, as it's already been reported, he wants to "narrow the scope".

That's what happens when senators count chicks before they are hatched.

Rubio underestimated how hard it would be to get any legislation passed regarding immigration. I commend him for his efforts, but not so much on his statement to pass the DA by late summer.

To say "I want to pass it by the end of the summer and effective by fall" is the same thing as Obama saying he wants immigration reform.

We all should have had this face when thinking the DA would pass by fall

Sure, dreamers can wait. I just hope they don't have high expectations though. DA user syndrome is a terrible way to go.

What do you propose we do?

How about a mass suicide attempt? We won't actually commit suicide, but I'm just trying to get this point across: How many deaths will it take for you to listen?(Directed towards the gov./Obama)

I've read of one recorded suicide. There must be more that we don't know of. Or just plain deaths because of the situation.
