Here are the requirements to obtain a DL in IL http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/pu...s/dsd_x173.pdf

My dad mentioned something about you need a vehicle with insurance at the time of applying for first time applicants. Anyone want to confirm?

^ I assume you need to have insurance on the car you use for the test. Anyway getting insurance without a DL isn't a problem.

So can I arrive by myself with my car (is insured) to use it for the test?

Or do I have to bring someone who is licensed with me? Since it would look odd at DMV arriving in a car without a license lol.

Well. I got illinois driver license and I live in Georgia. lol I took my SSN, Valid Passport, and also to proof my residency (two documents) and ofc you need car insurance for your car for driving portion. I got a driving class and asked them if I can use their car and they charged me $100 just to use their car for the driving test portion. I got the insurance document from the driving instructor.

Good luck!

I'm from Chicago and want to get a license if I get my EAD, so if I go with my uncle who has a car and is insured would they let me use his car for the test?

Well yeah if you want to renew it. You call them up and tell them you are out of state and you will be for more than 90 days and they mail you the application to the Georgia address. Well from what I remembered, for renew process, I needed my 2 illinois residency documents and fee and probably my passport(cant fully recall if it was needed for renewal).

No they don't tell you to apply for GA license. lol I went to illinois one day on a plane and took taxis to get to DMV and hotel and all that hassel. I don't know anyone there and didn't have a car either at that time. For renewing, I did it all via mail and phone calls. Thank god I did that. It was worth it! At least it allowed me to drive to get to college and work and ofc having a ID helps with all the little tasks.

BUT you will be getting Georgia license soon so IDK why are you are asking about illinois. lol.
