LAMONT -- The Dolores Huerta Foundation is calling on students to take part in a march for the children of undocumented immigrants. They're calling for immigration reform that will not separate the children, born in the United States and have citizenship, from the parents who came to this country illegally. Students will call for passage of the Dream Act, a bill in Congress that would make it easier for children brought to this country by undocumented parents to go to college. The foundation is working with the Lamont school district to make sure youth who choose to demonstrate do so on Sunday, and not on May 1, when a national strike is said to be taking place. The 1.3 mile march will begin at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at San Agustin Church on Myrtle Avenue, and end at the Lamont Family Resource Center on Burgundy Street, where a Children's Day Festival and Health Fair will take place. |
