Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), a leading negotiator in talks on immigration reform, says the Senate Gang of Eight is on track for a deal by the end of March.

Schumer and other members of the gang have packed their schedules with meetings to hammer out the biggest policy disagreements before Congress leaves for a two-week recess.

“We’re very close to an agreement,” said Schumer. “We met this morning for two hours. We’re meeting again this afternoon. We expect to meet our goal of having comprehensive immigration reform supported by all eight of us by the end of March. We’re on track.”

The other members of the group are Sens. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), Bob Menendez (D-N.J.), Michael Bennet (D-Colo.), John McCain (R-Ariz.), Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) and Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.).

The group still has to resolve the question of how many H-1B visas should be allocated for high-skilled workers in technical fields such in engineering, science and medicine.

Schumer said there are concerns that foreign workers could receive training in the United States and then return to their home countries, undermining the technical advantage of U.S. industries.

“There’s broad consensus on letting more high-tech people into the country, but what we want to do is make sure that those kinds of mills that don’t really end up helping America, but rather might be mills where you get training here and go back home, can’t be allowed to continue the way they do,” he said.

This has nothing to do with me or most people on here but I really hope they include some type of provision for international students who require sponsorship to work in the United States. I'm not sure what can be done but I just hope they do something.

Honestly, why do you want internationial student to stay in u.s.? we have enough
competition already... I still believe that most of international student should go back
to their countries. But keep the brightest here in u.s.

I'm hoping they actually allow minors of skilled visa holders to be allowed as 'Dreamers' as well.If they meet the requisite requirements of being in the US before age 16 and have been here for 5 years I think they should be allowed the relevant status.

Exactly, we have ENOUGH competition here therefore we should not have an immigration reform, since it would add more people into the work force. Can you see where I'm head it?
International students pay out-state or full tuition at private universities. Yet, you don't want them to have the same opportunities as you? Eventhough they can here legally and stayed legally.
I'm just so appalled at the selfishness of some people. It is convenient to support something that will HELP you, but forgets about others. If the majority of US citizens would think that way, then they would not care about CIR since it wouldn't help them and would create for competition as you say.

Hopefully they will also touch the current immigration system for legal non-immigrant visa holders. I think it would be very unfair to leave them out since , they truly did and still do everything right(legally).

You are being selfish. They deserve more than us. They come legally here. I wouldn't mind the competition. That is what brings the best within ourselves. Of course, only the weak are afraid.

Oh Thank you so much for this response. I was about to go ape shit on that dude. I know so many friends who were international students at my school and were worried so much because of sponsorship. Their parents literally paid their life earnings to send them to school here without knowing much about the immigration laws. No companies are willing to sponsor because of the effort and money required. I just pray Congress does something. Maybe a new category of work permits to international student graduates. I know us dreamers have had it bad but it would really be unfair to this group of students, most of them masters students if this portion of the law remains as it is.

Same here, a lot of people I have met were international students. Some were lucky to get a sponsored, others had to leave. It really wouldn't be fair! Atthe end of the day, I think we all want the same thing which is a chance. A chance at achieving our own American dream.

We should be selfish because we have a tough life. Honestly, deep down inside you. I bet you
don't give a damn about other people. I don't care if is fair or unfair. i want everything for me first
then other people later.
