Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), a member of the bipartisan "gang of eight" authoring comprehensive immigration reform, said Tuesday that the bill does not have the votes to pass the Senate.

"I think even the Democrats would concede that," he said on "Fox and Friends." "One of the things we've learned over the last few weeks -- through the open process that happened through the committee process and all the public input that we've gotten -- is how little confidence people have that the federal government will enforce the law."

He added, "I'm optimistic something good for our country can happen, but it needs to happen the right way."

Rubio's comment contradicts recent statements by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), who said that the bill had 60 votes for passage to avoid a filibuster. "I think we have 60 votes. Remember, we start out at 55 Democrats. I think the most I'll lose is two or three. Let's say I wind up with 52 Democrats. I only need eight Republicans, and I already have four, so that should be pretty easy," he said on the Nevada television program "To The Point" last week.

Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) has also agreed with Rubio that the bill does not yet have the votes. "We need to add more votes on the floor," he told Univision in late May. "That means that the community in your state, in every state, should be contacting your state's two U.S. senators, saying that they want comprehensive immigration reform, that they are going to judge their political future based on this vote. And if we do this, both in the Senate and later with the members of the House of Representatives, we can achieve the victory that we want."

The Senate votes are clearly there. Rubio is trying to mislead the conservative base tactically and calm them down momentarily before they go on to pass the bill. When it passes, it will seem like Rubio and the GOP Senators didn't blatantly support it but tried their very best to water it down. I know its confusing but I think this is what's going on. Either way...its good for us.

This guy is a joke. He doesn't care about Hispanics. All he cares about is old white people and how he want to be president. I just ignore anything that he says now.

I smell bs and that is probably why DHS extended TPS for another 18 months. I dearly pray to God that I'm wrong. But the silence from Gutierrez, Durbin and the rest of the lot alike worries me.

One Democratic strategist working on behalf of immigration reform said Democrats who don't now support the bill include Sens. Max Baucus, of Montana; Joe Donnelly, of Indiana; and Mark Pryor, of Arkansas. Undecided Democrats include Sens. Mark Begich, of Alaska, and Mary Landrieu, of Louisiana, who, along with Pryor, face re-election in 2014.

A second Democratic strategist said proponents have a wary eye on Democrats who voted against the Dream Act - a much narrower measure that would have granted citizenship to some illegal immigrants - in 2010. Those lawmakers include Sen. Kay Hagan, D-N.C., who is up for re-election next year, and Sen. Jon Tester, D-Mont.
Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., who skipped the Dream Act vote, is expected to oppose the immigration reform bill after fighting for another issue unpopular in his home state, gun control.

So, we just lost the NJ Senate vote recently (RIP), and I'm doing this quickly while working, but we don't have 7-8 DEMOCRATIC Senate votes!!! So, if Reid has 54 (2 independents included), it really means we have 45-47 votes and will need 15-13 Republican votes. Merde!

P.S. Forgot to mention for those who do not know, these are the same individuals who voted against the DA in 2010.
