Bipartisan meetings in the House of Representatives on a comprehensive immigration reform bill have failed, and the congressmen will meet for the last time today without reaching an agreement on a House bill, ABC News has learned.

The stumbling block is GOP insistence that newly legalized workers now working in the shadows have no access to government-sponsored health care during their 15-year pathway to citizenship, according to two sources with access to the secret house “Gang of 8″ meetings.

Democrats say that since these newly legalized immigrants would be paying taxes they should be eligible for benefits.

The stalemate is not expected to be solved and any immigration legislation from the House would likely proceed in piecemeal fashion.

This latest development represents a huge blow to immigration reform advocates because the House is likely to pass several smaller bills that address immigration reform, but would not include a pathway to citizenship. It creates a much longer and arduous legislative road to a bill President Obama would be willing to sign.

The final nail being driven into the coffin. Incredible. Gang of 8 does all the heavy lifting. Public does the rallying. President gives the speeches. Country supports the initiative. Group of Conservative Reps come out of no where and make the final decision by doing absolutely nothing LOL..What a sham. It's all over.

If they don't pass CIR it's basically defacto amnesty.. More people will keep coming in, putting their kids through schopl at tax payer expences 10-20 years from now 30 million undocumented... Problem is gonna be bigger.. They can pass it now or leave it for later to be passed with even more people.. Up to them.. Either way I have no faith in the house, these representatives are idiots

Why shouldn't a group of people not get benefits but have to pay into the system? It makes no sense..

This is the smartest yet the most simple post I've seen all day regarding this issue. Hats off to you for recognizing such a simple characteristic of this issue. Republicans will NEVER have a man/woman in the White House if CIR does not pass.

Exactly, and not surprising. Congress has a whopping 6% approval rating.

It's mind boggling how they get a seat in congress.. You'd think with such a valuable position, you'd have the smartest guys in the country occupying it..

Shame, Congress is now just seats for people looking for glorified 9-5 jobs with half the year in recess, and the other half not getting anything done.

What a fucking job!!!! LOL

Amen brother..Amen. More of a circus if you ask me. One session..the Senate passes and the House bails. Next session..the House passes and the Senate kills it. Looks like they're all in it together and we're the punching bag. DACA is not enough. Our fams need the help. If CIR does not pass this year, my faith in humanity will diminish and with it my hope of the American Dream as well. If Obama's promise lives on, we should see CIR passing. It would be the perfect end to his Presidency. Lets hope CIR turns out to be Health Care Reform of second term.
