House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi signaled that if a piecemeal approach on immigration is needed to get a bill on the House floor, she will accept it instead of a comprehensive measure.

“If the speaker wants to have a House bill, I fully support that sentiment,” she said. “To have a bill would be desirable.”

She added, “They have the majority, let’s just move forward on something.”

She added that she hopes regardless of the final shape of a House bill, she hopes that it includes a provision for fees for H-1B visas for high-skilled workers to provide for American workforce training.

Asked about Pelosi’s remarks, Congressional Hispanic Caucus Chair Ruben Hinojosa (D-Texas) said his members discussed that approach and are opposed to piecemeal immigration bills.

“We do not accept that, those type of strategies are just to delay, delay delay to kill it,” he said Thursday afternoon.

Pelosi wants a comprehensive bill. But she signaled that she is willing to make concessions in order to find legislation that could be passed by the House.

Democrats have previously objected to moving immigration reform through the House in small pieces as opposed to a comprehensive bill since a piecemeal method risks losing Democratic votes.

But Pelosi said she’s willing to take what Democrats can get in order to move forward to a House-Senate conference.

“In order to have a House bill, a bill has to pass on the House floor,” Pelosi told reporters on Thursday.

But she warned it has to be something her caucus can still support.

“If you want our votes, it has to be something that our members can support,” she said

Sign of utter, complete incompetence by the Dems. You waited until the last f*****g minute to negotiate DOWN the Senate bill, just so you can claim you passed "reform". Forgive me that I don't buy your BS, also called "border security" anything, but just three weeks ago Rep. Pelosi was shouting to the four winds that CIR would pass by August.

Well, if this had been introduced in early March as we were told it was supposed to have happened, we would have had 5 months' time for negotiations until the Summer recess.

If this fails, it is going to be catastrophic for our communities AND for the Democratic party. Poor strategy, poor timing, a Republican bill, really, and...I just don't know what to expect anymore.

Democrats are lying! Real delay lies in a HUGE bill that contains everything.

Let's pass the DREAM Act first with a fast-track path to citizenship for dreamers. It would be an easy bill supported by both parties.

umm no, its CIR or nothing now. Democrats want the whole bill to pass, and they will get it to pass. I m curious to see if Nancy Pelosi will file a discharge petition forcing Boehner to bring the Senate's bill for an a up or down vote though.

I wonder if she can find 17+ Republicans to sign on and if all 201 Dems will back her on it. But, then again if anyone knows how to corral her caucus, it's Nancy.

If I recall correctly, didn't Gutierrez mention something about there being 30-40 republicans that would vote on the yes on the Senate's bill. I think this would be more than enough to pass.

Even if it means leaving you out? With no retro active clause to cover those that are aged out our aging out? Tread carefully DA User, it is much better to pass CIR than Dream Act at this point.
