A young girl told Tennessee Republican Rep. Scott DesJarlais at a town hall last week that her father was an undocumented immigrant. The girl was asking what she can do so her father would not be forced to leave the country.

“I have a dad, and he’s undocumented, what can I do so that he can stay with me,” the young girl asks.

“Thank you for being here and thank you for coming forward and speaking this is a big intimidating crowd and appreciate you coming forward and asking your question but the answer still kinda remains the same. We have laws, and we need to follow those laws and ya know, that’s where we’re at,” the Congressman said to applause.

According to the description of the video, which was uploaded to YouTube Thursday, the young girl in the video’s name is Josie and her father is currently in deportation proceedings.

DesJarlais was speaking at the the Rutherford County Tea Party’s “Conservative Conversation and Cocktails” meeting. According to numerous descriptions of the event the town hall was attended by about 200 people including including Organizing for Action.

The Congressman’s “on the issues” page on his campaign website says he believes: “Illegal immigration burdens taxpayers, compromises national security, increases criminal activity, and erodes the significance of being an American citizen. We must secure our border and devote resources to enforcing current immigration law, which includes partnering with state and local law enforcement organizations.”
Not Dream related, but think the Congressman was a bit harsh.

"we have laws, and we need to follow those laws" such a redneck thing to say. What happen later, did they get the little girls information and deported her father?

Candidates only say those things when its to their advantage, i bet you if he was in LA talking to a more liberal crowd he wouldn't have said that shit, instead he would have been more like "I WILL DO ANYTHING IN MY POWER TO FIGHT FOR CIR" crowd goes wild.

backward ass candidates. Stop trying to keep your job and actually work for the people. And no, those 100+ voters who showed up aren't "the people" its all of us. We're not a minority anymore and they're also afraid of that. we're not going anywhere.

On other news, the word "shit" is okay to say on television. The word "republican" has been added to the curse words list.

I think parents affected by family seperation should get deferred action if CIR doesn't pass. It would be a bold move that would be extremely popular with minorities. Fuck republicans... And even with Bush as president I never said that. The tea party ruined everything.

No because then everyone would be encouraged to have an anchor baby.

Only thing I have a problem with is, there's 11 million undocumented in the U.S. get us our god damn legal status, secure the boarder, reform the current legal system and do something that'll actually improve the economy immigration wise.. Stop politicizing every god damn thing like going against something that has bipartisan interest purely because Obama wants it..

If Obama came out tomorrow endorsing oxygen, every single republican would die because they can not like the same things he does.

I remember when the First Lady got asked the same question. Her response was much classier, and sensitive to the child.

I should stop "politicizing" a political issue? That statement defies logic.

Saying everyone would be encouraged to have "anchor babies" is like GOP representatives complaining DACA would encourage young immigrants to continue immigrating, to this day, because of the incentive we received. Or to not give DOMA couples immigration status because men would fake gay marriages.

I don't know about some of you, but a lot of dreamers and immigrants have moral standards to-the-point people who can adjust status by marrying a U.S. citizen will not do it. And I know you are young because like marriage, taking care of a baby is a GIANT commitment.

Listen, clauses are put in place to weed out people from DACA, like: Must be under the age of 30 or must be present June 15, 2012. Some limitations can certainly be set if parents who are victims of family separation would get deferred. Now , I know somebody will always exploit the system but that risk is worth it for families being torn apart today because of parent deportations.

And if Republicans died because Obama endorsed oxygen... Fine! That is what they would deserve for being dumb-assess against: science, facts , logic and the ethical correct things to do.
