The House majority whip on Sunday sidestepped questions about whether House Republicans would be willing to postpone Congress's August recess if no immigration deal is reached this week to deal with the surge of unaccompanied migrant children at the U.S.-Mexico border.

"We’re not even on recess," Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.) said on "Fox News Sunday." "We’re here right now, and we’re ready to work. We’re going to do our job this week. If the president wants to sit back and just continue to point fingers at other people, he’s the president of the United States. He could solve this problem today. He’s been AWOL on it."

Scalise suggested that the House may pass legislation this week to deal with the immigrant children, but he said the Senate and the White House will have to take action as well.

"At some point the president should sit down and say, 'Do we really want to solve this problem?'" Scalise said. "I want to solve this problem. I’m going to stay working until we get it done. The House is going to take leadership."

The Republican also said any legislation should focus on securing the border and reversing a 2008 anti-child-trafficking law that prevents the United States from quickly deporting unaccompanied immigrant children from certain Central American countries.

What kind of bill are they going to pass? Dump all those kids in federal prisons until their parents come back to claim them? Republicans are absolutely retarded.

They're probably going to repeal the law that protects child refugees.

Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door

...so I can get a good look at their faces before I slam the door on them!

This whole child immigrant issue is so FRUSTRATING. Half of those clowns protesting wouldn't be anywhere to be seen if they just DIDN'T KNOW that this issue is going on. It does not affect anyone adversely. Ain't nobody going to lose jobs or get diseases because some kids decided to show up and cross across the border without papers. Lack of education is cancerous. These people don't realize its actually the House Republicans who are responsible for this since they have not passed any sensible CIR which would actually secure the border!

I don't see them opening up the gateway to welcome in Palestinians who are getting blown up in the streets. I don't see them opening up the gates to let in all the Syrians who are refugees. Look at Texas and see what percentage of the population is Hispanic compared to those from other backgrounds and if you're honest, you'd see that South Americans have it pretty good when it comes to immigration compared to others.

Obama should be an asshole and call a special session of congress on their second day of vacation, and continue it until they pass reform.
