Retired Marine General John Kelly has emerged as the top contender to lead President-elect Donald Trump’s Department of Homeland Security, according to three sources close to the transition
Quote:
During the campaign between Trump and Hillary Clinton, Kelly said he'd be willing to serve in either administration. But unlike other notable high-ranking former military officials like Flynn and Gen. John Allen, the retired four star general never endorsed a candidate. Whoever won, Kelly said, shouldn't doubt they're “getting anything but the absolute best military advice, completely devoid of politics.”

He seems like a blank slate when it comes to the immigration issues. The only quotes I've seen about him are generally about securing the border from drugs coming in etc. Apart from that, you can hardly find any of his views about immigration. I think he will be the best pick out of all the names we've heard so far.

This is probably the best I have heard then.

In my opinion, if they want to militarize the border, then go ahead. I mean it is a border in the end.

Is sending the national guard over equivalent to militarization?

I think having military presence at a border should not be a big deal. I mean BP is way more brutal and also corrupt.

It would not be a bad idea.

Fortify it if they want some kind of monument, sure it will be a waste of money but the U.S military already spends millions on artillery per hour so what's a wall compared to that.

Well lets hope that Donny succumbs to his greatest enemy: Common sense.

I feel like this guy would be something that we could use. Tough on the border and cares about national security, but doesn't seem to give a damn about us. Honestly we just need DACA to be left as is. The less we are mentioned the better. As long as Trump doesn't sign an EO, and DHS secretary doesn't issue a regulation disbanding DACA we're good. Programs like this are generally left the hell alone once they survive the beginning of next presidency. No one is going after all the El Salvadoreans that have been here on TPS since 1997...

Also literally anyone else aside Sessions for AG and we're good, since immigration courts fall under DOJ.
