Flake, R-Ariz., unveiled his Securing Active and Fair Enforcement Act,*or*SAFE Act,*Friday as the Senate was preparing to adjourn for the year. He said the bill would serve as a marker that incoming Trump administration officials and others could review over the holidays before it is re-introduced when the new Congress convenes in early January.

"It's 'safe' for dreamers and it's also 'safe' for Arizonans," Flake said in a telephone conference call with the media. "So it will protect both."

Flake's bill so far has been overshadowed by another, bipartisan*bill to protect dreamers — young undocumented immigrants brought to the United States as children —*offered Friday by Sens. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., and Dick Durbin, D-Ill., called the BRIDGE Act,*or Bar Removal of Individuals who Dream and Grow our Economy Act.

That bill, which Flake has signed onto as a co-sponsor, also would protect dreamers from deportation and provide them work authorization*for three years if, as is widely anticipated, President*Donald Trump kills the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, program that President Barack Obama created via executive action.

"I've always thought that any*child who is brought across the border by their parents, through no fault of their own, ought to be treated differently than others," Flake said. "They're contributing to society. They're going to school. Some of them have graduated and are working. Some of them have entered the military and been discharged honorably. Those are the kind of people we want here, and we ought to protect them."

But he suggested his SAFE Act might better*"thread the needle" of political realities in the coming Trump era, in which the White House, House of Representatives and Senate are all Republican-controlled,*by including an enforcement component, too.

We got two bills. This one seems more likely to pass. It pleases both sides.

This is absolutely the right way of doing things.

I can already see it coming though... The UnitedWeDream email saying this is not acceptable, breaking up families etc...

I cannot understand why these people are trying to protect, "VIOLENT" criminals, those people should be Deported immediately or they must be kept in prison.

I like this bill way better.

"Some dreamers don’t like the idea of mixing protections for DACA recipients with immigration-enforcement actions because it pits one group of undocumented people against another."

Oh please don't advocate this position. PLEASE DON'T. The immigrants who are trash deserve to go. I hate it when some membera of our community are so excessively picky when decent compromises are introduced. HATE THAT SHIT WITH A PASSION.

This is an excerpt from an e-mail I received from United We Dream:

"Trump is trying to make his awful deportation policies more palatable by saying he'll let some people stay, while deporting everyone else. Yesterday he said he plans to "work something out" for people with DACA. We won’t be fooled, we are ALL #HereToStay.

We need to remind Trump and his cronies that he can't divide us. He does not get to pick and choose who stays depending on the day of the week."

DUDE, if there are some murderous undocumented immigrants, THEY DESERVE TO BE DEPORTED. WTF IS THEE problem. No, we are not all here to stay. I have dealt with some other undocumented immigrants who do not deserve to be here because of the shit they have done and CONTINUE to do. These douche bags make the rest of us look bad. Not to mention it's bad for national security. Oh what? So, are we now going to advocate legalizing a drug runner for the Sinaloa Cartel just because he is undocumented and we need to be united?!! DUDE WHAT THE F**K

That e-mail is poorly written. It does not touch on the criminality element. Trump has said only ones with criminal records will go. (Trusting him is a whole different issue). But, the e-mail honestly just ....WOW ....WOW....WOW

What alternate fucking reality do these people live in. These people are of the same caliber as Trump's racist supporters.

I think this time however, criminals will not be safe. Democrats do not have a majority, they do not decide what comes down to a vote. Enough democrats would vote for this for it to become law.

Trump would sign it.
