House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said it was "totally irresponsible" for President Trump to threaten to shut down the federal government if he doesn't get money for legislative priorities like his promised southern border wall in December's funding bill.

"We're not about closing down government," Pelosi told ABC's "This Week," referring to the Democratic caucus. "The Republicans have the majority. They have the signature of the president. It's up to them to keep government open."

But Pelosi said her party was willing to negotiate, and by the end of 2017 wanted to secure protection for young illegal immigrants through the DREAM Act.

However, she admitted it was difficult to have the required conversations with the Trump administration because of "the chaos that exists in the White House right now."

"I have said to him, when we've had our differences with Republicans across the aisle or down Pennsylvania Avenue, we've always been able to at least to go forward based on data, evidence, facts, a bottom line in terms of a number," Pelosi said. "To say, 'Unless I get a wall, I'm going to shut the government down' is totally irresponsible for a president of the United States."

Pelosi also said Trump "went rogue" this week on issues like Obamacare, the Iran deal and tax reform.

When asked whether she would discuss her signature piece of legislation with the president, she added "we're a little far down the road" to talk to Trump about the Affordable Care Act.

Looks like Democrats are setting the stage for a government shutdown.

Sounds crazy, but gov shutdown does nothing but help Trump's message. He will spin it and his stupid base will take it.

You can only spin things so much. The lose of CSR payments is going to have a real tangible outcome. Only a small fraction of his crazy base will still believe his BS. Also. some congressional Republicans are working on a bipartisan fix to that. Higher premiums will be blamed on Republicans, as will a government shutdown.

They are in the majority.

Pelosi says they’re willing to negotiate and I hope this is true. I can see the Dream Act easily being passed in December if it’s combined with a border security bill. Idk about a wall bill. At this point they should give him the damn wall but that’s not likely to happen.

You keep saying this man. Hope you are right. It just seems to me Republicans are too racist to care and Democrats are too political to solve this fucking problem for us. I just want the ability to travel in and out of the country .

What she means by that is negotiate to pass a budget deal. Like when they agreed to the democrats 3 month term and attachment of Harvey relief in the last bill. They can couple border security in with the DA in December and easily pass it. It would pass now if Ryan brought it for a vote but he’s at the hostage of all the factions of his party. They won’t allow any vote that doesn’t have majority support of the caucus. Democrats are right not to try to do another deal with Trump.
