Please follow the link below to call to ask Office of Refugee Resettlement to release Rosa. Rosa is only 10 years old, recovering from surgery, and is a DREAMer (brought into the US as a baby).

Quote:
Border patrol agents followed the ambulance and camped outside the hospital room of a 10-year-old girl with cerebral palsy getting emergency surgery – then jailed her in a detention center for kids. Call the Office of Refugee Resettlement today and demand they release Rosa Maria Hernandez immediately.

CBP has told her lawyer she will be released to her family after they start deportation proceedings. Her family can go to see her, but they would have to pass a checkpoint so they can't go.

The article is not very detailed. Why was she passing the border checkpoint? Is there a reason why she is being targeted while 11 million undocumented people are chilling?

In order to get to the hospital for her surgery, she needed to pass the border checkpoint.

CBP are being dicks. They say they are cracking down on human smuggling.

Since she came alone, they treated her as an un accompanied minor. Like most, she will be processed and released to family members.

Her parents could not afford medical care, so they came to the US and got her on medicaid. ( according to the NYT )

Okay, now it makes sense. SHE CAME TO THE U.S. for a medical procedure. They are treating her and sending her back. Am I missing something?

How did she qualify for Medicaid?

Her parents brought her here at 3 months old for medical treatment, and stayed. She is now 10 years old.

Not sure how. Maybe there is some program for sick kids or the times is wrong.

Quote:
Her mother, Felipa de la Cruz, 39, said in an interview that her family had moved to Texas from Nuevo Laredo, the city in Mexico just across the border from Laredo, when her daughter was still an infant, hoping to get better treatment for her cerebral palsy.

They had not been able to afford her therapies in Mexico, she said, but in Texas, Medicaid paid for her daughter’s treatment, which included home visits from therapists.

“I’m a mother. All I wanted was for her to get the surgery that she needed,” Ms. de la Cruz said. “It never crossed my mind that any of what is happening right now could happen. When you’re a mother, all you care about is your child.”
