WASHINGTON (AP) — House GOP leaders unveiled a plan Saturday to avert a government shutdown next weekend and keep the government open through Dec. 22.

The measure would buy time for bipartisan talks on a bigger budget agreement that would give the Pentagon and government agencies significant relief from a pending budget freeze.

A temporary spending bill enacted in September expires at midnight on Friday.

The move comes despite opposition from some GOP conservatives who think they’re being set up for a pre-Christmas deal they won’t like.

House Democrats say they won’t vote for the legislation without protections for immigrants brought to the country illegally as children. GOP leaders oppose the idea.

Talks on a budget agreement are likely to restart next week after a setback on Tuesday when top Democrats pulled out of a meeting with President Donald Trump after he attacked them on Twitter.

House Appropriations Committee Chairman Rodney Frelinghuysen, R-N.J., said the new stopgap funding measure “will allow for additional time for a deal to be reached on top-line spending levels for this fiscal year. Once this agreement is made, my committee will rapidly go to work with the Senate to complete the final legislation.”

“I am eager to know what Republican leadership believes they can accomplish in the next two weeks that they haven’t been able to accomplish in the last two months,” countered top House Appropriation Democrat Nita Lowey of New York.

Its amazing that the best they can hope to pass is a measure that pushes the budget until dec 22 lmfaoooo
After that, they will need democrats for a larger bill. They are delaying the inevitable

What’s crazy is the whole “well we need the majority of Republicans to support something before we can debate something,” but for this, which many Republicans are against kicking the can down the road for the omnibus spending bill, it’s no issue.

Haster Rule was never codified and never a rule anyways. I think that Ryan will gets ousted sometime next year because there is no way he is coming out on top in any of this.

What is in bold is called the "Hastert-Rule." The problem is a majority of House Republicans are not against stalling, they are for it! 70 out of a 200+ Republican conference is not enough to bridge that divide.

Regardless, with 70+ republicans willing to work here, I think clean DA could be rammed in as an amendment. Even if we consider the numbers, we only need 24 republicans for majority, fewer if there's abstentions or non-voting.

Stall it for two weeks and then what? It’s sad they can only dream up a plan that’ll stall a spending bill for two weeks. The freedom caucus said they’ll only agree to it if their concerns are met. And if so, Ryan will lose moderates. It’s a lose lose for Republicans; which is why they always beg for democrats votes.

The statistic of having 240-260 votes[between Republican and Democrat] in the House has not changed over congressional cycles I have read. However, 2010 was an outlier because the Speaker was not Republican. Here is the absolutely big question....

Will Ryan NOT enforce the hastert-rule on his conference for DACA legislation?

They bring up the same continuing resolution BS for "enter time period" here. In addition, blame Democrats for it and said that it couldn't meet their "principles" and set that up as their 2018 message for voters.
