Here comes the expected downswing

Nothing really new.

http://thehill.com/blogs/floor-actio...-at-an-impasse

He said negotiations on passing legislation to address the DACA program are "currently at an impasse. [Democrats] are jeopardizing the future fate of those DACA recipients."

Democrats rejected an offer from a group of GOP senators led by Sen. Chuck Grassley (Iowa) that paired parts of Cornyn's border security and interior enforcement bill with a DACA fix that did not include a path to citizenship.

Cornyn told The Hill late last week that an update on a path forward could come as soon as this week.

Democrats want a deal linking border security to the DREAM Act, that would give immigrants brought into the country illegally as children a path to citizenship.

"When we get senators who are willing to accept the principle of the DREAM Act ... If the senator from Texas will start with the DREAM Act we can then engage in additional conversations, including border security," Durbin said on Monday.
Durbin is willing to compromise, but not with Senators who are against the very idea of DREAM Act.

GOP is trying hard to embrass and shame Dems into giving up their ONLY leverage to save Dreamers.

But everyone knows Govt will shut down if Dems demand isn't met.

Durbin said it is true that negotiations have stopped -- but said it was because the other side wasn't being serious enough in its opening offer to not offer a complete nonstarter (in their eyes).

"First they said, 'We're not going to give you the Dream Act, and here are five things we must have that go way beyond border security.' They wanted to change an international treaty standard for asylum. What?" Durbin said with dramatic effect. "So I sat down with Grassley and Cornyn twice, personally, and said, 'Let's be honest. Neither of you have ever voted for an immigration bill and probably never will. I've got to sit down and negotiate with people who might vote for this bill.' So I've had a lot of different conversations going on since, including one with Sen. Cornyn."

....

But here's the real play: Durbin says the funding bill is the only option
"We have to put the Dream Act and whatever accompanies it on a must-pass bill and send it to the House," Durbin said. "I think that's the only way it works. And they have basically invited us to do that for a lot of internal political reasons in the House."
DHS reverses course on some rejected DACA renewals

Just in case that sounded easy (hint: it's not), it's not just DACA that Democrats want attached to government funding.

"What we have decided, and I think makes sense, this has got to be one bill," Durbin said. "We have a lot of things to do. We're not going to pick favorites and run those, we're going to put them all together. And I think that's the only way to bring this to conclusion."

Sen. Cornyn rules out DACA fix, setting up government shutdown fight

Republicans need Democratic votes in the Senate in order to pass the spending bill. Without a DACA fix, they may not get them.

Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) says there is “no way” that a must-pass spending bill will include a deal to protect immigrants brought to the country as children, something for which Democrats have been fighting, setting up the possibility of an imminent government shutdown.

The Senate GOP Whip on Monday specified to reporters that Congress’ short-term spending bill will not make permanent protections available for so-called unauthorized DREAMers, according to The Hill’s Alex Bolton. Cornyn said he would “be happy to” address DACA before the omnibus, but Congress has until midnight on December 8 to pass a spending bill or risk shutting down the government.

In early September, President Donald Trump rolled back the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) initiative, an Obama era program granting temporary work authorization and deportation relief in two-year increments. Recipients whose DACA statuses expire before March 5, 2018 were told to renew their work authorization cards for one final two-year increment by early October. Many did, but recipients whose DACA statuses expire beginning on March 6, 2018 could be subject to deportation and job loss. After Trump rescinded the program, he called on Congress to provide a permanent fix for the DREAMers, giving lawmakers six months to find a solution.

Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell recently said it would be “ridiculous” to have a standoff fight with Democrats over the immigration issue and risk shutting down the government.

A number of Freedom Caucus members are going to the floor and voting no on going to conference on the tax bill to get a longer CR.

@MEPFuller

Lol they're trying to vote against motion to proceed on Tax Bill to gain leverage for a longer CR.

Basically the Freedom Caucus sees they have no leverage on the CR, so they're looking to make a deal by potentially voting down the motion to go conference on the tax bill. @MEPFuller
