I’m happy to have that negotiation today, or tomorrow, or Dec. 31, or January or February,” he said on a press call with Texas media Wednesday. “But we’re not going to get anywhere” if Democrats “turn down every offer out of hand.”

On Tuesday, Cornyn rolled out his party’s proposal for DACA. That bill, he said, offers a “compassionate” three-year transitional period for DACA recipients, paired with border security measures to lure fellow Republicans, whose votes he’s responsible for rounding up.

“Clearly a long-term and permanent solution would be better, in my view,” said Cornyn. The three year transitional period has in the past won support from members of both parties.

Aides on both sides of aisle say negotiations for a deal before the end of the year are closer than they appear.

Frank Sharry, executive director of America’s Voice Education fund, an immigrants rights group, called Cornyn’s proposal a “con job” filled with “nativist poison pills.”

“Cornyn pretends he wants to help immigrants and to get immigration reform enacted,” but “he makes sure that Democrats can never agree to his demands,” said Sharry. “He’s done this repeatedly for over a decade

- Democrats and even some Republicans say they won't vote for the Republican DACA bill without including a path to citizenship

- TILLIS, a co-sponsor on the Grassley-Cornyn bill, says he "can’t imagine right now that we would have sufficient votes to pass it in its current form, so by definition it’s going to have to change to get bipartisan support.”

- Even if GOP added citizenship, Democrats probably still wouldn't vote for it because of the non-DACA enforcement provisions. “We can consider some border enforcement issues, but not those massive changes, says MENENDEZ. "They’re going to have to do much better than that.”

- “I don’t support a final resolution without a path to citizenship," says Lindsey Graham, a #DreamAct co-sponsor.

Cornyn wants something permanent for his side and something temporary on our side. Ok yeah that makes sense. Shows how much he cares on finding a true fix.

Just like their tax-crime bill! Aren't they something?

American citizens, children, seniors, schools, hospitals, etc, can get a temp break while asshole Republicans fleece taxpayers and the country to benefit millionaires.

Immigrants get abused, exploited, discriminated, used and disposed for the benefit of for-profit prisons and xenophobes' political careers.

Enough.
