Options to save DREAMers
Members of both parties have filed a variety of bills that could be included in a spending deal, but the main difference is how long DREAMers would have to wait before applying for citizenship.

Democrats prefer letting DACA enrollees become legal permanent residents able to apply for citizenship after five years.

A Republican proposed those in DACA should wait 10 years before they can become citizens, and another GOP lawmaker wants to push the wait time to 15 years.

Another option would extend DACA for three years to give Congress time to forge a long-term solution, but that measure would not include a pathway to citizenship for DREAMers.

What do Republicans want in return?
Republicans have made clear that any DACA proposal needs to be part of a broader deal that gives something to opponents of illegal immigration.

The question is how much?

The White House released a set of priorities in October that includes funding for a wall along the U.S. border with Mexico, plus more immigration agents, judges and jails. The Trump plan calls for all businesses to use E-Verify, a federal program for employers to screen the immigration status of job applicants.

Honestly best thing would be if Collins and Flake would vote no on Tax bill to delay it til January. After Jones is in, and if Tax bill wasn't passed, we would have leverage.

Any attempt to ram thru #DACA amnesty at end of year must be rejected. Don’t listen to Schumer or Flake, @realDonaldTrump! It’s a big $ trap—and electoral trap.
