I've been looking through these threads and it seems like there was a lot of action here last year right before the DREAM ACT reached the senate. But we all know that the bill crashed and practically burned at the stake. And now, there isn't much here that I am seeing in regards to doing something about it NOW.

Have we given up? Is there no more hope for the DREAm Act? Are we going to roll over and die?! Seriously. Someone talk to me.

We are all optimistic, with some exceptions, about the passage of the bill. However, we're also normal teens and young adults with a natural aptitude for extreme laziness.

It'll pick up again when it nears November, as well as early next year. I would save your energy and enthusiasm until then, when it really counts.

I'm amused. While it is significatly harder for us young adults to strive for such an intangible result, we must stay vigilant. I got a fortune cookie the other day. It read, "If you care enough for the result, you will most certainly attain it." I know I may sound supersticious. But I do believe that one day, undocumented "Americans" will be given the the recognition that we deserve. We deserve to stay. We deserve every right that is given to every citizen of the United States. We must fight for this. Not when November comes, not when or if Obama becomes president. We must strive for a better tomorow EVERYDAY. We are all fighting because we need this. All of us. We must prove to the senate that we are deserving. We must show them that our presence in the U.S. is not because of unlawful and wrongful decisions or circumstances. We were brought here by our parents with no choice or knowledge of the legal proccesses of our lives in America. We were raised here and made American. Our natural-born country is now foreign to us and we cannot be forced to live as foreigners in the country we were raised to commune in. Let's show them and show them some more. There are tens of thousands of us. We are smarter than this. We can make this happen. Who believes!

So you mean it doesn't count right now?

Oh and by the way, I'm not very familiar with how the congress works, I know they are in the 110th congress and in the 2nd term. Is there any chance for a bill like the DREAM Act to come along before this congress is over? Or the agenda is filled up? I just don't know exactly how things work there. (Architecture Major here not politics :P)

And if we're taking action what can we do at this point? Other than call senators to support the DREAM Act when it comes around again.

You'll pick up things soon enough, just be sure to read, read, and read. Most of us here aren't poli sci majors, but we've learned through research and involvement on the forum.

Unfortunately, immigration won't be brought up this year, because they choose not to. They are very open when they say "we won't even tackle an issue like this in an election year," basically admitting that they're enslaved to the polical games. Pathetic huh?

I'm not saying that our effort doesn't count at this point in time, but merely stating that we have to adjust our activities to maximize our influence. As in, in the next few months, we would be better off spending time to spread information on Dream to the general population to educate them, in hopes that they will support us when Dream comes up for a vote in the congress.

When the congress is geared to tackle this issue again, starting in 2009, we can start transitioning our efforts to things like calling the senators, rallies, and whatnot. I just think it's not worthwhile for us to start calling senators right now, when they have sworn to not budging until the election is over.

This isn't like a high school student body election where all you need is some peppy enthusiasm, there are time lines and strategies involved for us to win. Also, considering most of us have jobs or are in school, it'd be ridiculous to drop everything to campaign full time in the upcoming months (which won't matter much to the congress anyway, as I've said.)

Keep in mind that this is just my take on things, some here will agree and some won't. I'm just saying this in hopes that you can understand the bigger picture as a member.

K-man, you may be right about the senators and their stubbornness. But how will you ever get to where you want to go if you don't devote yourself to it? Winners don't wait until their chance and take a little shot at the end hoping for it to count. That's what losers do.

I like your energy and enthusiasm.
Start a blog, join A Dream Deferred, keep in touch with the crowd over at DreamActivist. Don't waste your valuable energy on convincing the non-activists and non-risk takers to do something. Trust me, it doesn't pay as I have learned from experience time and again.
Cheers.
