Here's what's in it for Dreamers:

Pathway to Permanent Legal Status and Citizenship: The bill proposes a multi-step process for eligible Dreamers to obtain conditional permanent residence, then full Lawful Permanent Resident (LPR) status, and eventually apply for U.S. citizenship.

Conditional Permanent Residence: Eligible Dreamers would be granted conditional permanent residence for a period, often cited as ten years, and removal (deportation) proceedings would be canceled during this time.

Requirements for LPR Status: To remove the conditional basis and become a full LPR, Dreamers would need to meet certain requirements, such as:

Obtaining a college or graduate degree.

Serving at least three years in the U.S. military.

Being employed and working for at least four years.

Access to Federal Financial Aid: The Dignity Act would provide eligible Dreamers with access to federal financial aid for higher education.

Application from Abroad: It would allow eligible Dreamers who have been deported to apply for relief from outside the country.

Protection for DACA Recipients: The bill specifically includes DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) recipients and provides them with an opportunity to adjust to lawful status.

Repeal of In-State Tuition Penalties: It prevents penalizing states that grant in-state tuition to undocumented students based on residency.

It's important to note that the Dignity Act is a comprehensive bill that also includes provisions for border security, reforms to the asylum system, and other legal pathways for immigrants. For Dreamers, it represents a crucial legislative attempt to provide long-term stability and integration into American society.

Any mention of Dreamers or a baby step is good, but this is being introduced by 2 nobody's in the House. And a lot of this is actually sensible and in a way, a step in the right direction.

None of this is in Republicans' white nationalist Bible, Project 2025, however. No way Dreamers get amnesty.

Unfortunately, that means: DOA

This is a reintroduced bill. It was created by a Republican back in Trump's first term, but backed by the Problem Solvers Caucus as well as several additional moderate Republicans and Democrats.

Immigration bills will start to make their way forward now that Trump's big bill has passed.. If Republicans can find a middle ground that is not considered amnesty, there is potential to get something passed. Passing anything is a long shot, but at least we are back in the conversation instead of the 3-4 years of silence.

The GOP and Trump pushing for passage of this could be a good distraction from The Epstein files.

Or this could be another reason to get MAGAs even more angry, I don't know for sure I hope they see it that way. But sentiment based on people's comments and from members of congress don't look good, the majority are enjoying the ICE raids

The Epstein Fiasco proves Trump Admin don’t give a F about ordinary MAGA distractions

It is Trumps last term and he will do whatever he wants

If Trump wants to legalize DACA, he will and nobody will do anything about it.
