Hola comunidad,

I'm working on a study titled "Undocumented Student Access to Higher Education: Funding Tuition" as part of my senior project/honors thesis for my Urban Studies graduation requirement at Stanford. The purpose of the study is to better inform educators and undocumented students on possible options (specifically in regards to financial aid) to pursue a higher education. I hope to do this by interviewing currently enrolled undocumented college students, high school counselors and college admissions representatives.

I've interviewed close to ten students so far (and most of them are my friends). I'd really like to get a more representative pool. So...

If you know a currently enrolled undocumented college student at any private or public post-secondary institution (2-year, 4-year, enrolled part-time or full-time) ANYWHERE in the US, please encourage them to participate in the study. All the information provided by participants as part of the study will be treated as strictly confidential.

Most interviews will be conducted via phone or in-person (depending on location*). College student interviews range from 40-60 min. It covers three parts: 1) Background info~/demographic survey, 2) high school experience, 3) college experience so far. A participant can choose to skip a question or discontinue the interview at any point in time.

To set up an interview or seek more information regarding the study, please contact me via e-mail: [email protected]. Interviews will be wrapped up by December 1st, 2008.

The findings of the study will be presented to the Urban Studies department at Stanford and presented to educators and students in California and Arizona in Spring of 2009. (If you want to help me get the word out, please get in touch with me).

Thank you so much for your support!
Diana

*Phoenix metropolitan region in-person interviews will be scheduled Nov. 24th-26th.

Welcome. I'm going to move this to the 'Taking Action' forum. You're more likely to get a response there.

I'm not sure if this will be of any help, but two economics professors at my school have a paper on "Does Reducing College Costs Improve Educational Outcomes for Undocumented Immigrants?"

http://www.bakerinstitute.org/public...Outcomes-5.pdf

The paper may not be totally agreeable, but it's similar to your topic so I thought it might help.

Hey have you tried reading Alejandra Rincon's book "Undocumented immigrants and higher education" She has done a really good work. Kind of what you are doing. It's the first book that adresses this issue. I am also working on doing a study based on her work. well good luck and hope everything works out.

Umm... this person is doing primary research people for her undergrad thesis... lol she needs students to interview as a major part of it, not your recommendations about what publications she should read (though that is helpful in the part where we sit and debunk other studies and methodologies).
