For those of you members replying to a post from the opposition...2 choices #1) DON'T REPLY at all if you are going to use foul language or derrogatory comments to try and insult him/her (because this is their exact intent and motive in posting at a place supporting DREAM Act, they want to bait you into emotional outbursts therby exposing your flaws and justifying it as typical actions they would expect from us #2) debate them in a civil manner and use your intelligence to point out their faults in their logic and the holes in their arguments...and how their claims are based on false assumptions and racially stereoypical flawed propaganda.

Now I admit I just wasted some precious time I could be devoting to DREAM (and as soon as I finish this post, I'll return to my DREAM Act projects). But it was well worth it at the moment (gives me motivation to work much harder) :)

This seems really racially charged. What is wrong with people of Hispanic origin coming into this nation? You are making this seem like it would be detrimental to American culture. These are the exact words that Benjamin Franklin said about the "mass influx" of German immigrants when this country was beginning. Now, I understand that you may try to refute my comments with the fact that German citizens came to this country "legally", even though there was no legal system for immigration back then. Fear of new cultures has almost become a tenet of this nation. Please refrain from making comments that may be offensive to members of this forum.


I would like you to answer this question for me. I came to this country at the age of 2 and only recently [shortly after my graduation from high school to be exact] have learned that I was an illegal immigrant. My question is: What would you do in my situation? I know almost no Spanish, I know nothing of the culture of my native country, and I have been raised exclusively in the United States. I'm studying domestic Political Science in college and I really have no interest whatsoever in knowing about my "native country"'s politics and system. I don't do this out of hate or rejection; I do it because I simply have no interest since my political interest is exclusive to domestic American policy. What would you do if you woke up on morning and found out you were an illegal immigrant? Would you go to a "home" you do not know or would you stay put, hoping that something or someone may help you?

Many illegal immigrants [and a good chunk of the members of this forum] did NOT cross the border but overstayed visas. They were children at this moment and cannot be held accountable. Don't lump all illegal immigrants in one statement as that is incredibly ignorant and will make you seem completely uneducated.

Again, I came to this country [with a tourist visa] at the age of 2. What would I know of laws and criminal charges when I am two years old? That's a preposterous notion.

Residing illegally in the United States does NOT carry a criminal charge. Entering illegally does. Why are the children of illegal immigrants not given another alternative than inheriting their parents' illegal status?

The statement in bold is very communist in nature. You are speaking to people that understand the concept of capitalism. If you do not agree with this, please move to another country. Government should not provide for all of its citizens.

The DREAM kids are only asking for an opportunity for redemption. We are not criminals because we did not come to this nation with the intent to break the law. Our parents made the decision to bring us here. Don't categorize everyone under the same umbrella.

While I do appreciate the fact that you have tried to initiate a debate on the DREAM Act in a very educated and, above all, non-offensive manner, I do have an issue with many things that you have said [obviously]. If you would like to continue this discussion, please feel free to PM myself, any of the moderators, or members that you feel comfortable with in discussion. For now, this thread is locked and please, do not clutter up the boards with your personal opinion as this is not an opinion-driven forum. We're advocating and working towards the passage of DREAM and, at the moment, many of us don't want to bother with debating.

Man, looking back at it now, college sure was a waste of time. I mean nevermind those that already got our Bachelor's, want to get a Master's, PhD's, or go to law school (oh noes, we might take one of your spots!!!!!), the real benefactors of the DREAM Act will be those MS-13 gang members. Sigh, I knew I should have saved myself the $20k I spent on my education. :roll:
