Acquiring Citizenship by joining the military

For all of you who don't believe its possible, and for everyone who is willing to take the risk. I've posted about this before but not a lot of people think its possible. Just remember it is not guaranteed that you'll get citizenship, you might just get a green card, or you might be put in deportation proceedings. This is the way it works, you need to find a recruiter that is willing to let you enlist while being undocumented, you're not going to lie to the recruiter, but not every recruiter will let you enlist. After your first day of active duty you would be able to apply for citizenship, but USCIS can deny your application, so like I said there are no guarantees.

Re: Acquiring Citizenship by joining the military

You can only get citizenship if you die while serving in the army, if you are undocumented.

Otherwise the law that Bush signed was to only expedite the naturalization process of lawful permanent resident (LPR). The naturalization process normally takes 5 years, but it is reduced when an LPR joins the military.

Sorry, but this is too much of a risk.

Re: Acquiring Citizenship by joining the military

In reading both those articles I just got the impression that the only way that undocumented people can enlist is if a recruiter is lying to them. All of the other information seemed directly related to people with legal immigration status. The part about the pentagon having the authority to implement the DREAM act military requirements was very interesting - but the article states that the pentagon hasn't chosen to implement that change. Maybe someone (Mr. President ) should pressure the pentagon.

Re: Acquiring Citizenship by joining the military

if USCIS denies your application, can you leave the army? (sounds wrong but why would you risk your life for a country that doesn't even consider you as a citizen)?

Re: Acquiring Citizenship by joining the military

iNeverHadAChance, if the USCIS denies your application, most likely they will recommend to put you in deportation proceedings.

Re: Acquiring Citizenship by joining the military

Yeah, Ineverhadachance you could leave the army, but if USCIS denies your application, and you leave, you could be court martialed, and I'm pretty sure the army would try to get you deported after you complete your sentence.

And many of you need to understand my point, I'm not saying that you can join tomorrow at any recruiting station and become a USC in six months. I'm saying there is a possibility. If USCIS denies your application, you could still go before an immigration judge and you might get to stay or you may not. And yes, I agree with you on this Alex, every case is different. Some people might have a better chance of staying if they have legal relatives, speciall skills, etc. etc.

lol they expect me to get my body torn apart in Afghanistan and come back to US only to get locked up & deported? Or live w/o a job or car? Tell them to go F*** themselves.

I agree. I mean, let's use common sense here. It's in the law that USCIS can't issue paper to undocumented immigrants. Is USCIS going to grant an exception for you or are they going to comply with the law? Choice is clear. USCIS doesn't give a f*** about you.

eh, not really arabic. It isn't really a language used to communicate. Its like Jews and Herbrew, it is the language of the religion. Since the op in Iraq is over Farsi linguists will be in demand since it is spoken in Afghanistan and parts of Pakistan. Other potentialy threatening countries like Iran also speak Farsi.

Re: Acquiring Citizenship by joining the military

I was one of the people who was dead set on enlisting, completely against my mom's wishes. Now, you have to re-evaluate that option, like I have. Do you want to die for people who destroyed your Christmas? Some sleazy politician who voted YES for you before, just had the balls to say YOU WASTE MY TIME, GET OUT OF MY OFFICE. They don't give a fuck for you, why do you want to die for them? They just played politics with 700,000 lives.

You want to die for them? For some stupid fucking war that makes no sense? That only benefits special interests?

i see the point you're trying to make. you all write as if you enlist your gonna die as soon as you get out of boot camp. assuming, that you get to test as if you were legal you wont have to join the front lines. unless their is some clause in a your contract forcing you to be front lines do to our legal status. only then will i have to truly think over my idea of enlisting to change my status.

Army alone = over 150 Jobs.

Infantry =/= The hole Military

I plan on enlisting, too. =P But I want to be a 68W, Health Care Specialist (Medic) so I would kinda have to be on the front lines, but playing a diff role.

Thanks for the info, Ivan.

Even you admitted, and I think it is just too risky option. For me, marrying a USC seems easier option than this.

A recruiter is going to swoop you off your feet. You'll go to his office, he'll sit you down, and he'll say "I'll make all your wishes come true." You tell him you want to become a 68W and he'll say "absolutely." Even if you ace the biology part of the ASVAB, you'll only get the position if there's an opening and even then, if you get lucky.

People sign up to be all sorts of things in the Army, just to find out they have to drive a vehicle or whatnot.

Thats why you don't sign up for an open contract or you leave if it isn't guaranteed.

if they say "we have little openings" that is a red flag. There are precautions a recruit needs to be aware of before putting pen to paper.

Given the current situation between SK and NK, im sure Repub's are going to wish they has passed the dream act and had at least an additional 500,000 troops.

Can you let me know when you finally stop being so naive. FYI USCIS does not issue SSNs, they're issued by the Social Security Administration. And please don't act like I'm a recruiter, I'm just trying to find a way out of this fucked up situation for me and others!

If you are referring to undocumented getting citizenship via the military, it is not true.

The only immigration-related benefit by joining the military from the Bush law is that lawful permanent residents get their citizenship in months and do not have to wait 5 years they normally would have.

Yea that's the only way, you get automatic citizenship if you die while serving.
