To CA DREAMERS

I know we CA dreamers who applied for Deferred Action are per-occupied with it.

But this is concerning the CA DREAM ACT.
To any dreamer that is from cali. AND GOING TO A COMMUNITY COLLEGE. Has that community college granted you the BOG-Waiver for the coming winter and spring semesters for 2013. I have tried and tried taking to my community college financial aid office and they still have nothing :x regarding the ca dream act.

I am just at a lost. I want o get the BOG-Waiver for the winter and spring but I need help from those that know or have talked to someone in their community college. Thanks.

Jeez, under the CA DREAM ACT (which I already applied for) starting in the winter semester a California ab540 student can have their fees waived via a BOG-waiver.
I want to get this waiver but my the community college that I go to still has not information regarding this.

I AM ASKING HAS ANYONE THAT GOES TO CALIFORNIA COMMUNITY COLLEGE HAVE ANY INFORMATION REGARDING THEIR FEES BEING WAIVED FOR THE UPCOMING WINTER AND SPRING SESSIONS. OR IF THEY HAVE TALKED TO SOMEONE IN THEIR COLLEGE AND HAS GIVEN THEM ANY NEW INFORMATION.

I'm in the same boat. I applied a while back though, when it passed. However, I have not heard anything since...

Is there any way that we can check that status?

hey bro be more specific when asking something. not my fault you can't express yourself clearly.

i know what the BOG waiver is. they probably have no idea what you're talking about because they don't know what the DREAM Act is. if you apply for the BOG waiver you should qualify for it. why don't you ask them when the BOG is applied instead of asking about the DREAM Act.

I emailed the California Student Aid Commission. They send me back an email stating this :

"Your California Dream Application was successfully submitted on (blank). Your application information was sent to the college listed on the application. It is very important that you contact your campus Financial Aid office to ask what other forms or information they may need from you to determine your eligibility for student financial aid. The campus may require other forms and may have deadlines that you must meet.

If you still have questions regarding your Dream Application, please contact CSAC’s Customer Relations Branch at 1-888-224-7268. The Customer Relations Branch fields calls Monday through Thursday from 10:00 am to 11:45 am and from 1:00 pm to 4:45 pm. "

It says that I need to contact the schools to see what else they may need which is a complete hassle.

Im currently attending a four year university, I actually had to call them to see what was going on with my application/process and they informed me that unfortunately, I would not be receiving any funding next Spring due to budget cuts and what not.

Try calling again (your financial aid office).

I think the issue here is the financial aid office at your school. Do you know when the office is set to report/ disburse funds for the Spring semester?

Re: To CA DREAMERS

I applied as well, when I asked my financial aid department they tell me to wait till January but as far as I know you do need to apply for the BOG- waiver

Re: To CA DREAMERS

Damn really?? My school does not know anything yet, I contacted someone on the caldreamact.org page and they e-mailed me back saying that my application was sent to my school on Oct 20 even though I applied in April! And they also said that not all schools were giving out aid for Winter 2013 ughh.

Winter? Mhzz Then just wait to see what happens in Late November/December. State universities appear to be reporting CA DREAM Act aid quickly. It might be different for community colleges. EVERYTHING WILL BE FINE.

Re: To CA DREAMERS

I know someone in the financial aid office in my school just waiting for that person's reply when I emailed for it. I heard from my friends who were disqualified said if you make above $21,000 a year you will be disqualified. That information is not confirmed so don't trust me on that.

Just bugged financial aid office again and they basically told me that its not likely that they are going to give out any aid because there are no funds left, that they haven't processed applications yet but it doesn't look good.

Me too :( because I wanted to transfer cuz it's so expensive at cal state compared to ELAC (community college) I can't afford going to a university.. If they don't give us anything I guess I am going to be stuck at the community college and get my AA until I find a good job that can pay for my masters :/ :(

They did, I'm currently at CSULB, unfortunately I didn't get Sh#t. The folks at the financial aid office did tell me however that the school was withholding aid from students and would 'release' that aid, depending on what happens with Prop 30. Not only that, they told me that if prop 30 passes, we would all (CSULB students -not sure about other schools-) get a $500 refund.

Re: To CA DREAMERS

Damn. I applied back when the application was made available. I was asked to turn in proof of being enrolled in the SS back in early August. I did it not too long after and have not heard from the school yet. I have been emailing them, calling, and lastly walking in to the financial aid office in person. Originally they said it would take 6-8 weeks, but I am currently on week 10 and still nothing. I might have to give them a call again this upcoming Monday.

I really really really hope I won't get told that I will not be receiving any aid. This would be quite devastating and I might have to take a semester off, which I absolutely do not want to do, other wise I will push my graduation by another year.
