More details leak out, re the Senate immigration bill:
http://www.nytimes.com/2013/04/12/us...=politics&_r=0
This is definitely no amnesty. So basically a person gets the 10 year provisional status but after that they will have to apply for a green card. The only problem is that you will be applying for a merit based green card and there's only 138k of them being offered a year. Therefore there is no guarantee that after the 10 years a person will get their permanent residency. So what happens after the 10 year period? Can the person stay in the provisional status (i.e. second class citizen) until they are able to get a green card (if they even ever become eligible for the merit based) or will their provisional status be revoked and they go back to their old status and are presumably deported because of the enhanced enforcement system? This article is a little confusing though. The Title says "house democrats present immigration overhaul" but the entire article focuses on the Senate's bill. Nevertheless, either way it goes, its a tough bill. Very tough. I still haven't found anything on the dream act so we'll just have to wait for Tuesday or Wednesday. Quote:

That is tough but acceptable.

Re: More details leak out, re the Senate immigration bill:
Wait, what?
10 years of basically having an EAD? I know there are still more details but hopefully this isn't the same for everyone. Especially those who already have an SSN from a prior status and have been here for 10+ years. |
Re: More details leak out, re the Senate immigration bill:
Tough and stupid if I look at it right. Wouldn't it take around 80 years for everyone to get green cards? That's only taking into consideration people already here. Obviously the right way to deal with the backlog is to do nothing about it and add more to it. A broken system needs to be fixed... not strained.
There HAS to be more to this bill. |
Re: More details leak out, re the Senate immigration bill:
Wow,They are basically copying an iteration of UK immigration law.I wonder if they will implement the 14 year rule as well, lol? In addition,I'm surprised no one was upset that it seems the undocumented would have to try and get a green card through the merit based visas which are capped. This doesn't seem to apply to Dreamers or Agjob workers.

is it me or I have not seen DA in any of these "proposals" and "outlines" It seems they forgot about us.

Re: More details leak out, re the Senate immigration bill:
This is so tough and current undocs might not even get greencards for ever.
I think this bill tries to hand out greencards to those deserving undocs who can go through the merit system, after living in this country for 10 years. GOP would be crazy not to vote for this. |
Re: More details leak out, re the Senate immigration bill:
This won't fly, sorry. It just means they get to collect fines and taxes from illegal immigrants that won't live long enough to become citizens. If this is the right information, then they have accomplished nothing, it doesn't fix anything. Even if they increase the cap to 1 million a year, it would still take more than 20 years. 180,000 cap is an insult

Technically,if the immigration bill forgives all prior unlawful presence and the undocumented individual has this "provisional status" they could be eligible for adjustment in all work and family visa categories inside the US. |
