Yeah, For now it just a student visa but can work with is as well. After this program I can switch to full time employment then my visa will be a work visa.

If I go as tourist then the visa won't be required all I would need is my passport and an entry ticket to Japan and an exit one back home but if I am going there to study or work and will be staying...

That is one advantage. Did thought if worse comes to worse in my case then can just buy a plane ticket and sort a visa during that time there.
