the same thing happened to my family. my maternal grandpa who i never met because i've lived all of my life here in the us practically passed away in may 2004. we couldn't leave the country obviously. it was pretty hard for my mom since she hadnt since her dad in almost 15 years! we were all close to leaving but we would be leaving to much behind, house, jobs, cars, etc and besides all of my siblings are extremely used to the american lifestyle. it sucks.

The same exact thing happened to me back in 06. I was the first one to learn of his death. We received a phone call from a cousin who got the news. I picked up since my parents were out buying groceries and my brother was still sleeping. As soon as I hung up I woke up my brother. He couldn't believe it. Afterward we knew that it was up to us to tell my mother. It was one of the toughest things we ever had to do. Time passed and we were able to cope this loss.
As for is this the worst thing that has happened to me? No, a loss of a loved one is too precious. "Papers" are inanimate objects like money.
