We just had a short interview with Congressman Hinchey. We asked him about his earlier report that the gunman had been recently let go from I.B.M.
“That’s what I was told by several people, before and after I arrived here, but I don’t know if that’s the case,” he said. “I gave it great validity because it came from several sources, including law enforcement.”
But, he added, “Right now we know very little with absolute certainty, about who he was and what he was all about.”
Did the gunman randomly pick the civic center as the scene for the shooting or did he have a reason to be at that center?
“He went there purposefully and intentionally
,” Mr. Hinchey said. Indications are that the gunman was an immigrant, from Vietnam, Mr. Hinchey said, adding that the car driven by the gunman was actually registered to his father.
“I can’t believe that this wonderful, beautiful little city would have this kind of experience,” he said. “It’s just amazing.”

There are 14 people confirmed dead.

More details here from press conference:

ABC reports that the gunman himself was an immigrant named Linh Phat Voong.

READ!!!!!!

A woman who answered the phone at a listing for Henry D. Voong said she was Jiverly Voong's sister but would not give her name. She said her brother had been in the country for 28 years and had citizenship.

This is so tragic. Apparently this is the fifth mass shooting in the U.S. in the past month ! Those poor, poor people. From the various reports on the different shootings it seems that lay-offs are one cause, as well as relationship problems. Very, very sad.

Heard in the news he was an immigrant citizen from vietnam. Is there a "reason" to shooting the immigration center? (i've got to read up on it). Man, with this guy and the guy from Virginia Tech, they're just fueling the FAUX news fire.

Caught up to the story. It's unfortunate that those leaving a former life seeking a better one have to end up this way. As unfortunate as this is, i'm glad the media won't be able to twist this into some anti-immigrant smear campaign seeing how some of the victims were immigrants themselves.
