I have a few questions on ICE checkpoints and raids.
Lets say that I want to get from NYC to Los Angeles. I could take the Greyhound, but I heard that there are ICE raids on their buses. If I took my car - is it safe from immigration? There are no immigration checkpoints if I drive in a private car on the same route the Greyhound bus drives?

If I stay away from the borders and I take the Greyhound bus from NY to TN and from there to Utah and then to San Fransicso and then to Los Angeles (staying far from the two borders) there are also ICE raids/checkpoints there? or its safe because its far from the borders?

Are you going anywhere within 100 miles of any border? Driving the route greyhound takes is less of a risk but as long as you are within the 100 mile range you are at risk.

Here is the article this image comes from discussing this entire 100 mile thing.

Let me see if I got this straight, HLS are allowed to check immigration papers ONLY within 100 miles of the US border? So, if I'll take the Greyhound and I'm 100 miles away from the border HLS/ICE or any other government agency won't raid the bus? Immigration checkpoints and road blocks exist only within 100 mile of from the US border?

There's a map where I could see where the checkpoints are? or they are not dumb and the checkpoints are in random places?

I used to live in a bordertown in south texas and there was a checkpoint(and there still is) about 1.5-2 hrs driving from the border. There were none others after that. My best guess is that checkpoints are located around 100 miles from the Mexican border in most if not all state/interstate highways and by the Canadian Border.

I have traveled from Houston to Florida with a friend and there are no checkpoints around that area, but I have heard of immigration stopping buses that are north bound. I have also traveled from Georgia to Houston twice by bus and never experienced a checkpoint.

So what happens on a checkpoint? I imagine not all passengers will have thier greencard or passport with them. If I present a valid driver's license and say I forgot my greencard will I be ok, or do they verifiy my identity in some database?

If you have a valid driver's license, you are FINE! As long as it's not expired. You can even travel by plane as long as it's your DL and it's not expired.

If I'll stay 100 miles from the borders, a Greyhound from NY to California is safe? Without any ID..

I've traveled by plane without having a DL, and this was this past summer... It's a big risk to take though.

Ok... I don't understand why you quoted me for your response since I said you are fine to travel if you have a valid DL or state ID. Traveling without such cards is risky as you said and I would not encourage anyone to do it. To each his own, I guess.

I live in the Bay Area in Cali, and now days when they do DUI checkpoints they also do I.D. check points where they are basically looking for anyone without legal status. Sometimes you can get a heads up if it’s happening but ur best bet is to go with someone who can legally drive. They can’t ask for passengers I.D. unless ur suspicious of something.
