lets just say the CIR goes through and finally receive a path to a legal status and citizenship..my parents have been using the same SS# ever since we have been in this country even for credit cards and have done taxes ever since, 15 yrs now.. would we have to start over with a new SS# once the CIR goes through??

Yes you would definitely have to start over with a new number, but I think the REAL question that your parents should be asking the Social Security Administration is can they keep the credits they have worked for under that number & obviously proof would be required.

A friend of mine recently did the same but they were able to get the work credits transferred to the new number from the made up one.
