Is it possible to obtain a credit card without a ssn? I already have a debit account that experienced a lot of activity with wamu, but I believe they require a social for credigt.

Does anyone know if there is a way around this?

Thanks.

Just use your itin as a ssn. Capitol One will approve you for sure. As for Wamu, give it a shot. I got a credit card from Chase Bank which now owns Wamu, so I'd imagine you should be able to get a credit card from them to. BUT! Apply in person (doesn't apply to Capitol One though). I applied for certain credit cards online, in the past, and they denied me due to "lack of required information." When I applied for those same credit cards in person, I was approved.

you can always go to Bank of America and get one. the ITIN should be enough.

Hey guys, I don't actually have a ITIN since i don;t work. Should I do that first or do you think they would allow me to go through without one?

Hello guys
I think that getting a ITIN could get you in trouble if you are an illegal immigrant because that would mean that you are working and if you are an illegal immigrant you are not aloud to do so. Can anybody tell me if my assumption is right please?
I know that you could get a savings and a checking account only with your passport and any other ID, but I Do not know about credit cards.

^^Not true. "The man" only cares about one thing and one thing only, your money. So long as you're paying your taxes the IRS will not care if you're working illegally. To them it's all good because they still get money.

No, getting an ITIN is not going to get in you in trouble. In fact it helps out a ton. As mentioned, you can get debit cards, credit cards and if you do work, and some of us have to in order to pay for school and food, you can pay taxes by using your ITIN; you have to pay taxes if you make over a certain amount. It's worse if you don't.

The IRS will not deport you because as long as they're getting money, they're happy.
