Hi guys...I've searched the forum about this but I couldn't get any answers.

I have a valid ITIN number but I don't have a card (or any written form) that goes with it. Is there anyway I could issue one? Anyone knows? I can't seem to find it in IRS website:

http://www.irs.gov/individuals/artic...=96287,00.html

Thanks

Do you have any tax papers from previous years that has your number stated on the paper?

While we are talking about ITIN.. I recently found out about ITIN and have applied for one. My accountant said I should recieve it in 4-6weeks.

My question- Does anyone know if we can apply for FAFSA using ITIN? My parents have S.S number and file taxes every year.

Do you know what bank or credit card companies will allow me to establish my "credit"? Any tips?

ANYYYYY Information regarding ITIN will help. My parents recently seperated. I am going crazy trying to find ways to make it through college with skyrocketing tuition and textbook prices.

Thanks in advance!

You can call the IRS and tell them that you need your ITIN number resent to you. They'll resend you the letter stating the ITIN number. Just did this a couple of weeks ago. The lady on the phone was really nice about it.

You cannot use ITIN for FAFSA. I wouldn't suggest even trying it. You can however use the ITIN to open up a bank account and credit card accounts. This will help build credit for the future. There are a good amount of banks who will take them. Search the forum and you'll find all of those posts.

The bank one is what I'm thinking of doing, but would like to have a proof that the number is legit and that it belongs to me. FAFSA is out of the question. I've never even tried filling up one cause i know I wont qualify for it.

Anyway, are they going to ask for anything if I call? Like ID or so?

No you can't. You can only do that with a valid SSN

They'll ask you for your address and to verify some facts just to make sure it's you. nothing you shouldn't be able to answer. give it a try. literally took me five minutes to do.

Can you use ITIN number while applying to college as part of the application? Does anyone know if colleges even verify SSN or ITIN numbers?

It depends on the college you're applying for. Talk to admission adviser/councillor and tell them about your situation, they may accept ITIN number or they may just assign you an ID number w/out using SSN. I know that talking about your situation would be uncomfortable but its better that they know so they can help you and tell you what other options you have. It also goes the same for financial aid.

Thank you for the quick response.

many admissions and financial aid officers at my school seem to be racist. I am scared to tell them my situation...
