Sorry if this has been asked before, I'm fairly new, but I'm sure that there's undocumented students here who have said F it and worked with forged documents in order to make ends meet and pay for school. Does this affect the odds of qualifying for the DREAM Act at all?
And it seems like no one drives here because we're not supposed to. How safe exactly is this forum? Can we be tracked down? I'm curious before I start admitting to stuff that can get me into more trouble.

I'm not sure if this is breaking forum rules but a friend of mine who fixed his status last year, through marriage, was told by his lawyer that working with a random generated SSN will not bar you from fixing your status. BUT! Stealing someone's identity, as in using their name, birthdate and SSN, will.

Randomly generated, if only! I don't think they're that high-tech yet. If you're using a fake SSN, you are already incurring into identity deft, with that said, I really don't know if and/or when you apply to adjust your status that question comes up. Honestly, what undocumented immigrant hasn't worked w/o breaking any laws, ie. using fake...

On another note, I think this forum should only be viewed when registered, or only allow the News subforum to be viewed but not everything else.

By randomy generated, I think he meant just making one up. but as far as it being identify theft, I think you are wrong. The way that I understand it, for it to be identity theft, you have to use all of the information that belongs to said person. So not only SSN, but also name and dob. As long as you use your own name and dob, you aren't stealing anybody's identity (for the record, I'm not saying it's ok to do it).

Quote:
The Supreme Court has unanimously ruled that an illegal immigrant who used stolen documents to work is not guilty of identity theft because he didn’t know the information belonged to another person.*

The ruling eliminates an important tool for prosecuting and deporting illegal aliens who victimize Americans by stealing their identities to get jobs in this country. In its 18-page decision the court says that the crime of identity theft is limited to those who actually know they stole someone else's information.*

Yes, I just meant random or made up. It was early and I hadn't had coffee yet!

But yes, so long as you use a random number and your name and birthdate, it's all good.

Just don't do that kind of stuff. Also, this forum isn't a place to discuss those methods even if you wouldn't be tracked. Publicly discussing those methods on an anonymous forum (somewhat anonymous) would just weaken our cause.
