IM DEALING WITH A MAJOR PROBLEM CAN ANYONE RELATE???

So here it goes... I've always loved school so as soon as I graduated from highschool I wanted to go straight to college. Im an illegal immigrant and was willing to do anything to get in. Received scholarships on my own and I registered with a false ss# not realizing that there was an AB540 available (SO STUPID I KNOW) just so i wouldn't have to pay out-of state fees. I continued to go to college for 2 years, making the deans honor roll almost every semester! I was so exited and doing so well until a major family crisis occured (my parents were deported), and I had to take break from school. Now I want to go back but i'm so scared how do I change my status to an AB540 student after having lied and to make matters worst not loose any of my hard earned grades and units passed on all those classes!? I don't want to have to loose everything, not be admitted,or WORSE risk being deported!! Please help ....I really appreciate your time everybody!

Thank you.

Unless someone has a more practical idea for you... My honest advice, would be to sit down with the dean/counselor for a private conversation. And basically spill out all the beans, tell them what you've told us here. Depending on what state your in, I would say that if that is something that can be excused in the first place, a dean with good morals would let you slide when he reviews your record. Or go to a counselor first if your too scared to just go straight to the dean. Counselors usually have bigger hearts and I'm pretty sure they're supposed to keep things confidential anyways.

I have a question as well...

Wouldn't putting someone else social in there mean that, that someone else is the one who's getting all the good grades? Sorry I'm ignorant to a lot of things related to SSNs(since I don't have one). =/

The grades don't go by social security, they go by your student I.D. number. Depending on which school you are going, for example i was going to ELAC and their everything is associated with your student I.D. number. So most likely he can just get a form and just change his status. The only reason why i am saying that is because i have a social security number and i receive in state tuition and aside from receiving in-state tuition in no way does it help me. What i would suggest is you consult your attorney and ask them what you can do? ask him/her what the consequences could be? Furthermore, i suggest you talk to your counselor before you talk to a dean because a dean will basically see that as an identity theft and you will be lucky if you don't get expelled or worse arrested. So for now just talk to your attorney, then go to the school's office and tell them that you want to change information on it that you want to register as an AB540 student, if you live in CA most of the time they won't care and will be a simple process.

Yes I do live in CA, and I've been doing a lot of reasearch and have tried asking many people... I just don't want to be ignorant anymore. Only if someone would of told me way back then that the AB540 existed and I would never be in this situation... We must spread the word because I am sure there are still many that do not know this exists!

^ Ya this guy makes more sense! Talking to a attorney first is always the best option, go with what he said.

Hey so I when I applied for college in CA it was way back (2003) when they had just passed AB 540 and by accident when I applied online I put my tax ID number (ITTIN?). I know very stupid, so anyway long story short when I asked one of the counselors if I could apply for AB 540 this was after I was accepted she said "well how did you get into the university if you haven't already, what social security did you provide? who's did you provide?" I was freaking out since it's all scary to start with and now she's accusing me of using someone else SSN. So I told her that I didn't use anyone's SSN and that I had used my tax id number that was given to me by the IRS. She then told me to come in and fill out the paper work for the AB 540 and she changed everything and my status was changed to AB 540 exempt from out state tuition. Nothing happened to me...but I understand why you are scared. I'm just sharing what happened with me with you but I think you should be fine.

You could talk to a lawyer or just talk to your admissions office on what you should do. Just explain to them that you want to file for AB 540 status. If they ask about the SSN you can say it's just a made up number.

I feel stupid for telling you to just go to a dean and spill the beans.... But thankfully there's good guys like blue and gzmn here to help us all.

This is a quote from the FAQ page of a AB540 site I found... http://www.decolonizing.com/ab540.htm

Quote:
Q: What happens if I have already given the school a false SS# or stated citizenship?
A: Students who qualify for AB 540 but have falsified information in the past will have to address this issue with the CIS when they apply for LPR. At the school, they should meet with a counselor they trust and change their classification to AB 540. Some campuses penalize the student financially so the student needs to work with a trusted counselor. If transferring from a CC to a CSU or UC, the student should apply under AB 540 even if at the CC they falsified information.
