Just found out that my 19 year old neighbor was arrested by border patrol and hour ago. He has been living in San Diego since he was 3 years old and went through the whole school system and graduated. He also filed tax returns for the past two years. His family doesn't know where they took him and they don't know what to do. He was fishing and border patrol asked him for ID, and when he couldn't produce it they hand cuffed him and he was crying. This is the only country that he has known, does anyone know what will happen and where they would hold him and what to do. I want to help but not sure how.

He was taken to the local county jail or an immigrant detention center in the area. If he does not sign for voluntary departure, he will be put into removal proceedings. He can be released under bond and will be assigned to the local immigration court.

Does he have any relatives that might know of his situation already???

At one point he must have been allowed to call someone... either for legal help or his family... if he hasn't contacted anyone, it's probably because he fears of compromising his family. However... how about his friends?? He could have attempted to contact them at least...

He was able to call his sister and he said that they pressured him into signing some papers, there was people screaming at him to sign and he was so distraught and stressed out that he signed, and now they say there is nothing anyone can do , he signed the papers so that's it, a done deal, now they are taking him to Mexico. Everywhere I called I was told nothing can be done once they sign that paper.

Something about this does not sound right... well, then again, stuff like this happens to immigrants a lot. I figure that he is just going to be deported since he somehow waived the option of going in front of an immigration judge to start formal proceedings.

Sorry to hear about your friend.

Wow... good to know we at least have the option to sign.. at least an immigration court may waive deportation.

P.s: sorry about your neighbor. : (

echo...are you sure he didnt do anything else? He needs to get in contact with a immigration lawyer. If he didnt do anything, then I am sure he could plead something. Ive read stories about dreamies being let go and permitted to stay once the situation is realized.

No he didn't do anything else, he is a good kid, he was just fishing, he has never been in trouble, went all through school here and graduated. They took him into custody on Saturday and they took him to Mexico on Monday, there was no time to do anything or get an attorney, the family doesn't have a lot of money. If he didn't sign the volunteer deportation he would have been able to get an attorney.
Some kids told me today that Walmart and Albertson's were locked down a few days ago while undercover border patrol checked ID's.
