Not immigration related, but at least there is light at the end of the tunnel for the finance bill. Which is good for immigration.

Republicans in the US Senate have dropped their objection to a debate on the most significant reforms to financial regulations since the 1930s.

Senate Banking Committee Chairman Christopher Dodd said Republicans would "at last allow debate on the bill to bring accountability to Wall Street".
Republicans had blocked action on the bill for three consecutive days.
The agreement came after Democrats threatened to hold an extraordinary all-night session in the Senate.

I'm not an expert. But at least it will pressure Republicans to pick up the next big thing, whether it be climate or immigration. (Of course, I want immigration next.)

Just my thoughts and rationalization.

The thing is that this bill was just allowed to be brought to the floor to be debated and amended. They still need to pass it and send it over to the House. For sure climate change will be debated and hopefully passed after financial reform gets signed into law and then sadly would leave little time before the campaign season kicks into high gear, shifting attention from immigration to petty political mud-flinging. Even IF climate change is next, Graham is in a pissy mood that he'll most likely not lend his support to either climate or immigration reform.

I do however agree with what Senator Lugar said; immigration should not be treated as an issue where everything had to be bundled up in a huge bill a la healthcare reform. I mean I honestly think that the Dream Act has a higher chance of passing and being signed into law than CIR as a whole. However unsympathetic the lot of the Right might seem to our situation through no fault of our own, the sole fact that this situation we're in is not of our own doing will win some on the GOP side to vote for Dream as a standalone bill. I honestly think that if CIR is pushed through right now and it tanks like it did in 07, the issue will not be brought up again for a couple of years.
