Quick question guys.

Planning on taking some classes at a community college here in California.. Southern to be exact. The thing is though, I dont have a SSN, but I do have an ITIN. Does this work? I'm not really sure how all this college stuff work. Graduated HS already, but not sure about the admissions thing or how it works. My point is what do I need and is it too risky to go to college?

If anyone can help me please respond. Thanks.

yeah just go to the school and tell them you don't have a ssn, they will issue you a number to use as your "SSN" when applying to the school online. This number is only good for applying to the school and nothing else.

After you get accepted you go to your High School and get an official copy of your Transcripts (grades), and make a copy a High School Diploma turn that into your community college admissions office. After you are done with that you will be asked to take a Placement Test which measures your math/reading/writing skills and from there you go meet with a school counselor who will advise you on what classes to start off with.

If you went to High School in California for 3 or more years and graduated in California you will qualify for a program titled AB-540 which allows you to pay an in-state tuition rate even though you are undocumented. Just go to the admissions office ask for the form, fill it out correctly and you are good to go.

Tip of advise: Rent your books, do NOT buy.

Apply to a college and DO NOT LIE about anything. If you are undocumented then in that section write undocumented or AB 540 ( it's been such a long time i forgot how the Application looked ) . But Make sure you do not lie in your application.

Then i think you will be fine.

Also what do you mean as risky? Going to college as whole and applying as undocumented student? Then in my opinion it is not.

That being said, i think it depends on the place you are going to. Some places even in California have strict anti-immigration laws. Also if you qualify for AB540 i think you can pay in-state tuition.

If you had given us the name of the college i would have found it in Google for you, but you can do it yourself too. Type in the college name that you are interested in and then AB540. Almost all public colleges/universities have some info on the AB540 on their website.

Best of luck.
