Not sure if this was mentioned before, but still; here it goes.

Last Updated: Tue, 08/10/2010 - 10:51am

As it strives to grant illegal immigrants in the U.S. amnesty, the Obama Administration has ordered authorities to stop deporting a large category of undocumented aliens while lawmakers craft legislation to officially spare them from expulsion.

The Homeland Security agency responsible for protecting the border and deporting unauthorized foreigners (Immigration and Customs Enforcement or ICE) has halted the removal of illegal immigrants who are students, according to a major newspaper report. The move, which will spare some 700,000 illegal aliens, is a response to nationwide rallies and demonstrations by defiant illegal immigrants protesting their eminent removal or that of their illegal parents.

I don't really trust that source. They are very anti-immigrant and tend to exaggerate reports to rile up their conservative base.

Yeah I agree. I need to hear it from a more reliable source like a nationally recognized newspaper site or something. Plus I think they are suffering to the memo from this post which really doesn't specifically say it will halt student deportation.

Yes, you will notice the use of the word "amnesty" like it is a fact Obama wants to get everybody off the hook. If you changed the topic to health care and inserted "death panels," it would be very obvious what direction the article was going.

In case after case where immigrant students were identified by federal agents as being in the country illegally, the students were released from detention and their deportations were suspended or canceled, lawyers and immigrant advocates said.

Well, another step forward is, at the very least, not a step backward. Considering I already have a B.A., I'm glad to hear that others will have a chance to continue their education (I hope) after being released.
