A nationwide push for immigration reform made a stop in the South Bay Tuesday night. The movement is designed to put pressure on President Barack Obama to follow through on his promise to help undocumented immigrants. "It is time the president of the United States use the power that he has," said Congressman Luis Gutierrez, D-Chicago.

Those at the event in San Jose want the president to pass the Dream Act and stop deportations that would split up families with children, but several tea party and Minutemen groups oppose this movement.

Gutierrez, meantime, is adding more to his calendar. At each of the town hall meetings, attendees are signing petitions, demanding immigration reform.
Next Wednesday Gutierrez will take all of the petitions and hand-deliver them to Obama.

That meeting is going to be a key indicator to see if Obama has any intentions at all of halting the deportation of dreamers.
Quote:
Gutierrez said he, Eshoo and other fellow members of the Congress will meet with Pres. Obama next week, and will request he take a similar action to what is laid out in Boxer and Feinstein's letter.

"We will tell him not to separate dreamers from their moms and dads," said Gutierrez, to a roaring round of applause.

Thanks for the post, bawler. This effort for administrative relief seems to have picked up some steam. It may be a long shot, but it's the only chance for any relief in the immediate future.
