Hey

Someone I know has been selected as one of the "winners" in this year's visa lottery. They are overstays, and were previously sponsored under 245i, but that went nowhere because of their employer. No criminal record, deportation order or anything similar as far as I know.

I remember that somebody in this forum was selected last year, a few days before they were suppose to leave the country, and I guess by now they have their GC in hand so they might not visit this forum anymore, but if they do, I would be very grateful for any information about what the actual process is like, when it normally begins, and how should a person proceed and what-not.

Again, thanks for any info or help.

I do not know well, but you should check the website. The only thing that I know is that the eligibility depends on which country your from.

There are a few countries who can't apply because of so many applications.

Yeah, I already checked the website. I am looking more for personal experiences with the application process, but thanks anyway.

The information can be found here.

Diplok was thinking about leaving the US,but wasn't forced to from what I could garner.

make sure you sign up using the correct site. There are a lot of websites that are not legitimate and ask for money in order to file the application. So browse carefully because the DV should be free.

Thanks h3wlett!

I am pretty much positive that they are grandfathered in under 245(i).

The fees are pretty steep, I only knew about the $330 per person for the DV-2013, and the $1000 for I-485, had no idea about the supplemental fee. I guess for two people you have to double that, and then double it again for all the lawyer's fees, so around 5k-6k.

However, what I am most interested in is the interview process for the 245(i) together with the DV. Do they basically ignore how you got selected, and just go through the process, or grill you about everything and drag the whole thing out?
