So as you probably already know, El Chapo was caught last week.
I kept seeing all over my Facebook feed. Now, I don't know much about him, or his struggles, or whatever. All I know is that he's a very powerful man, with a billion dollars that he made from the drug trade.

As I was saying, I kept seeing posts about his capture, but what I read/saw really kind of disturbed me.

Why do Mexicans idolize this man? Like, really is there really nobody else good enough to look up to?

Women posting stuff like "oh they caught my Chapo, noooo!", and I'm like, isn't that a good thing?
And the men are like "watch, he'll be free again in no time"

I've read that he is the lesser of the three evils (the government and los Zetas being the other two).... Still I don't get it.

Mexico doesnt have a lot of important figures so in a way Mexicans look up to this guy because he has made himself and Mexico somewhat popular. And women for x reason always idolized daring and "bad boys" but for the majort part it's just Mexicans being proud Mexico has someone like that. I remember when Carlo Slim a lot of my Mexican friends on Facebook would brag about him at all the time. I always though how silly that was because he isn't helping them or anything after they would defend him for corruption and monopolizing the Mexican telephone networks

it seems out of place because there hasn't been that many "famous" people in the USA. granted there are very powerful here because the USA is where they sell the drugs, but what I think. The Upper business criminals use the gangs for dirty work, and the bossiness men criminals in the USA have a very high level of discretion. It is better for them to keep a low profile and never make any heavy hits to never arise any suspicion. They know how to cover their tracks.

In a place like Mexico with corruption they can pay off people to look the other way and they wont care if the public finds out of them. The people in the USA are well hidden that the only idolized ones are fictional characters such as Scarface, good fellas,Savages, and movies based on events like blow and Donnie Brasco.

Not all Mexicans look up to him. Only the dumbasses from small towns in Sinaloa do. people from really small towns over there are equivalent to our hicks over here; they are the ones who mostly get into this whole narco culture shit. My family comes from cities and i can assure no one in my family is proud of El Chapo or even Slim.

What big city are you from? I think its funny that you call people from small towns in Sinaloa names. Typical Mexicans were always putting people from other parts of Mexico down.

You know what grind mine? That Americans think that the Americans got him. I saw an special on YouTube about "operacion gargola" which is the operation to capture chapo. They say that the Mexican government did everything and they did not once mentioned US cooperation. I'm glad Mexico got him and now do public executions to all the narcos.

Funny thing is i would feel more comfortable if the US had caught him just because as we all know he already escaped once and of course he is currently in mexico being on e of the most corrupt places.

So i think the US would be more assuring when it comes to making sure he is going nowhere and that he is going to do his time in jail or whatever they are going to do to him.
