Hey everyone, just letting you guys know that once you guys have your social security number, you can go and make amendments for the 3 previous years you filed your income taxes. When you file your taxes with an ITIN, you do not get the credits a person with a social security will get. Now, by having your SS# you will be able to get the money you were not able to get with your ITIN. Just giving you guys the heads up

It would be great if someone can point out what those deduction or credits would be.
ATM?
etc...

I do my own taxes, but I just know the basics etc.
Maybe a guru can give us all the tips.

Yeah, it would be good if someone would let us know. I know we can get the 1098-t credit, which is for college and university expenses. We can get the full child dependent credit, which with an ITIN we only get $1000 instead of the $2000 or $3000 we are supposed to get. Idk about the other ones.

We can claim back up to 3 years; and I don't know how much you will get back or if you will get back anything. It all depends on how much you made, what was your income and all that stuff. I would suggest consulting a tax representative.

Cool. That is definitely the best thing you can do; contact someone who specializes in income taxes. Idk if you know Spanish or anything, but "Zapatero a su Zapato."

I am looking back at 2010 taxes and I received the full amount for the American Opportunity Credit. Which is 4000 max expenses per student.

Would the Lifetime Learning Credit be more generous?

No. I believe that credit was less.

Earned income credit is the one people will be eligible for.

I would totally just leave it alone and wouldn't go back to get more credits. Don't want to be labeled as greedy by USCIS if I ever go through the green card process and use tax returns as proof of good moral character.

F' that. I follow Father/Pastor Romney's advise "It would be unpatriotic to pay more taxes than what the you're suppose to."
