I'm located in Southern California. I have put off applying for various personal reasons but I feel ready to apply now. I have almost all the papers I need save for the Birth Certificate Translation and the Passport Photos. I am worried that my parents may have used a false social security number when I was around 15 (I am now 23). I was hospitalized and getting knee surgery and I believe they used a false social on some of my papers. I also don't have direct evidence that I was here on the 15th, though I think I have a good case established for continuous residence. I'm looking for a reputable lawyer in the Southern California area (I am in Long Beach, CA - near Los Angeles.) to review my information. Does anyone have any recommendations or referrals? I understand that many people feel it's fine to apply without a lawyer supervising the process but I and my family would feel better doing it WITH a lawyer.

Hey, I suggest to check out:
Carl Shusterman
600 Wilshire Blvd
Suite 1550
Los Angeles, CA 90017
Tel: 213.623.4592
Email: carl@shusterman.com

and
James R. Mayock
220 San some St. 12th Floor
San Francisco, CA 94104
Tel: 415.765.5111
jmayock@emvisa.com

I have worked with both lawyers, and I am very impressed with their professionalism. Mr. Mayock, is the person that I ended hiring for my process as he always answered my questions via email without charging me a dime before. Carl is a very experienced lawyer, he worked for the immigration department before.

P.S. just remember to give them as much information as you can so that they can do their best work.

Thank you for your reply, Latte11. I'm afraid Mr. Mayock is too far away from me to realistically be able to hire him and I'd feel more comfortable with a lawyer in my own area. I will look into Mr. Shusterman but still welcome other suggestions.

a lot of people applied without a lawyer and most have been approved.

my advice: gather all the evidence you have. from that pick the strongest evidence--school records, financial records, medical records-- and ask some people around here. supplement with the rest if there are gaps.

check out some non-profit organizations in your area.

some have gone with a a lawyer only to find out they didn't pay as close attention as they would've liked. i'm not saying that the above lawyers would do that, but keep that in mind.

there have even been people on here with criminal records that filed themselves and got approved.

as always, this is just my advice. i am not a lawyer. this is based only off my experience and what i've read here.

Reeves & Associates will literally cost you an arm and a leg. They wanted to charge my gf $1800!! As others have mentioned, gather all your info and make a strong case, fill out the apps (very easy), ask questions here if you are not sure about something, and then take it to a non-profit or a lawyer to review it. Good luck!

You don't need a lawyer. I recommend you look for non-profit help first. They will charge you between 100-500. Lawyers probably start at 400 and up. The application is really easy and straightforward. If you google online there are plenty of sample applications already out there. But, if you really want a lawyer. One of my friends used Judy Sparks she got charged about 1,000 dollars. My other friend used lorie schoenberger and she has done workshops for ideas at ucla here is her contact information
http://ideasla.org/index/ideas-defer...tion-workshop/
If you can make it to pomona college they are having a workshop this saturday

I think is better to do it by yourself though. My personal opinion.

I'm in long beach too, applied myself and got approved pretty fast. You can do it yourself, a lawyer would probably take his time, they also tend to add information you don't need. I helped my brother send his application and helping 4 other people with theirs. I'm pretty much using my application as a template for others since I got approve pretty fast. Don't worry about the fake social.
